Hotel Villa Maria

First impressions of the hotel were very good when we arrived, a bright,clean reception area, we were checked in very quickly by the pleasant and efficient reception staff. Just what we needed after a one and a half hour bus transfer from the airport, and that after a one and a half hour queue at the airport to get through the new entry/ exit face recognition and fingerprint system, nightmare. We got our room key on the second floor(Despite my request for a high floor!) but we got to our room via a very slow rickety lift, and it was fine. We were at the front of the hotel and just had a view of the sea from our sizable balcony. The room was spotlessly clean, and was kept so all week, large double bed, safe, kettle, sufficient storage space, a little sparce on decor but you don't go on holiday to stay in the room all the time. We went for a drink at the pool bar, which wasn't busy, and wasn't all week, the pool is just about big enough for a swim and is heated, plenty of sunbeds if you wanted, they were never full. Dinner is taken in a large airy dining room, the staff there are so hard working, they never seem to stop, very efficient, very friendly. Dinner is a 3 course set affair(with a salad/ veg buffet to start with) with usually one meat, one fish and one veg option to chose from. Dessert was always either a cake, fresh fruit or ice cream. Not a huge choice but usually very good quality Please note drinks are extra with dinner and charged to your room. Breakfast is taken in the same room and is a buffet with breads,cakes, meats, cereals, yoghurt, croissants, and a range of cooked items bacon, beans, tomato, sausage, and eggs. All very good but the same fare every morning got a little monotonous. Again the dining room staff were excellent, very friendly and efficient. There is a rooftop terrace with sunbeds and a hot tub too with lovely views over Sorrento and across the Bay of Naples . It is a very easy 10 -15 mins stroll to the maze of little backstreet with their myriad of shops, cafes and restaurants. 20 mins walk gets you to the train station recommended for a trip to Naples or Pompeii. One downside of the hotel is that the rooms can be very noisy, the walls are quite thin and you can hear the next room, and more annoying is the scraping of chairs from rooms above, and even drawers opening snd shutting, so it can be a bit irritating. But on the whole this is a lovely little hotel, in a great location, kept spotlessly clean, the staff are very friendly helpful and efficient. The week we were there it wasn't too busy and there was never s problem getting round the pool if you wanted.

Nice location. Nice pool. Staff super friendly. Breakfast was great. It’s no ritz but worked well for us. Defo recommend a visit.

The shower gel was provided in small tubes, not a huge issue, bought shower gel down in the town. And we had to pay for water in the room, but again just bought that whilst out. Not a show stopper, just personal preference.

Gostamos da hospedagem, hotel típico com recepção prestativa e amaável. Novo quarto precisou de acesso com escada após o terceiro andar do elevador, mas sem problemas para nossa mobilidade com malas. Atendimento excelente no café da manhã, bem completo e saboroso. Excelente como hotel em cidade base para passeios na costa Amalfitana.
