Secure parking, great central location, everyone was very welcoming and helpful whenever we needed anything; rooms were very clean, breakfast was always fresh and its service was always right on time; our room was very spacious, bright, quiet, just beautiful! We loved everything about our stay and hope to be back in future!

Stayed here two nights before and after Big Sur Marathon, in an upper-floor room, and loved having the jetted tub for a post-race soak. No AC, but opening the windows and using the ceiling fan and the provided electric fan worked well for the warmer daytime temps, and the fireplace was great for the cooler evenings. The room was spotless, very spacious, and decorated for a cozy feel — loved having the window seat and the vaulted ceilings. Minor street noise from pedestrians outside but with the windows shut I slept soundly, as the bed was very comfortable (note, there is an extra pad on top for those who like soft bedding; this can be removed for a firmer feel). Location is perfect to walk to all the shops and restaurants in Carmel, and for Big Sur runners, it's less than a block to the bus pickup in Carmel Plaza. The small parking lot is on an incline, so drivers should be careful getting in and out. All the staff were friendly and welcoming; Kevin, who checked me in, was especially helpful getting me situated, explaining all the amenities, and offering directions. The evening wine and hors d'oeuvres hour was very relaxing and I enjoyed chatting with other guests, though I would've liked to have non-alcoholic options such as sparkling cider or seltzer. The unlimited breakfast (ordered the day before) brought to the room was excellent — several different sweet and savory choices and all kinds of drinks. I very much appreciated that it could be stored in the mini-fridge on race morning after I had left, as the race bus pickup was at 3:45 am — I was then able to have the breakfast for lunch when I returned! The inn also has agreements with multiple restaurants for either discounts or a complimentary dish, and the lobby always had fresh-baked cookies, chocolate, fruit, and candy available. All in all, the whole experience was a treat, and I wish I could've stayed longer.

Michelle Pisciotta greeted my wife and I at check in. I have to say that Michelle was professional, detailed and absolutely amazing and made sure that our stay was truly memorable. She shared her thoughts on local restaurants in the area and highlighted places to possibly to visit during our stay in Carmel. She then took us up to our beautiful room and spent time sharing her thoughts on living in Carmel. Michelle and her entire staff should be recognized for being a great team. We will return again. The Carriage House Inn was a wonderful, cozy place to stay. We loved our stay there and the staff was amazing. Breakfast was delivered to our room in the morning and was delicious. Very close to everything. I would definitely stay here again.

Extremely disappointing stay — not reflective of a 4‑star hotel We travelled from Australia to experience Carmel and chose the Carriage Inn based on its advertised 4‑star standard. Unfortunately, the stay did not meet that standard in several key areas. Booking & Customer Service: We attempted to adjust our reservation and received no cooperation or meaningful communication from management. We were repeatedly referred to inflexible policies, with staff stating that management does not make exceptions under any circumstances. As a result, we paid for two nights but stayed only one.

Room Quality: The room was dark, stuffy, and dated. The television was an old model that did not work. When a technician attended, we were advised that only basic channels were available and that the TV did not support apps. Guests should be aware that streaming is not possible unless you bring your own device. Accessibility & Facilities: There are no elevators. Access to the upstairs rooms is via tight, steep stairs, and no assistance with luggage was offered. This is important information for travellers with mobility concerns or heavy bags. Noise: The rooms are not well sound‑insulated. Noise from neighbouring rooms was clearly audible throughout the night.
