"Great stay"

10.0

We arrived at the san clu at 18.00 in the evening, the reception staff was quick and welcoming to get use to our room to relax we had room 313 even though we were on the side we still had a great view from the window of the sea and the beach. The service in the hotel was above my expectations. The food was amazing, hot, and tasty. we stopped for 2 nights. I'd like to say thank you to all the staff for a great stay, especially jodi for the great service We would definitely stay again. Thank you again

"San Clu - back to my Ramsgate roots"

8.0

I don’t understand the negative reviews. Had a solo trip to visit family. The staff were so friendly, room was functional and clean. Felt safe as a solo traveller - no room service but the bar staff were great if you wanted to take drinks up. Continental breakfast had great local produce and fantastic selection. 5 stars

"That’s a Yes From Me"

10.0

An absolute gem, stayed here on New Years Yve and attended the NY Do, cannot recommend highly enough. Rooms were immaculate and obviously a refurb had brought them up to speed. Fabulous bathroom, walk in shower, excellent. Coffee making facilities if you require, bottles of water on hand. The cost was very reasonable and I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening with my family. The hotel put on a terrific band ‘Ozzie & The Uglies’ ~ the buffet was excellent and the wine prices more than reasonable. Would not only highly recommend but intend to stay there again myself. Thank you San Clu.

"Romantic getaway"

10.0

Booked a partial sea view room but Karen kindly upgraded us to the Wellington Suite with enclosed balcony and amazing sea views. Dined in the brasserie downstairs and enjoyed a delicious, great value meal. Highly professional service. Continental breakfast the next morning was plentiful and lots of choice. Ordered coffees separately from the bar for our caffeine fix. Wonderful stay in what feels like a family run hotel. Thank you.

"A bad experience!"

4.0

The best thing I can say about the hotel is that it is clean. The lift was (is) out of order and has been for more than a week. The stairs (to the 3rd floor) are very steep and narrow so it was a nightmare to get to our rooms. I can't believe it can take that long to mend the damn thing! No one to help us by carrying cases etc (we are all quite old 70-80's). and very little sympathy from the staff. The breakfast layout wasn't brilliant - items running out frequently and having to tell staff. Daft, very creaky 4 poster bed and creaky floorboards. I could go on but can't be bothered. definitely wouldn't stay there again.

"Mercenary hotel"

2.0

I had a very stressful booking experience and booking.com suggested they refund some money for this which they point blank refused to do. I find them mercenary and unhelpful. We will never go back there. They almost took double money for a simple mistake it was hellteyi g to get some back. Never again. For this hotel

"Pleasantly surprised"

10.0

Pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Comfy room, with comfy beds & newly renovated bathrooms. Rare to get free onsite parking & free use of a gym/sauna. The bar & food was brilliant. The atmosphere im the bar was fantastic, especially as they were hosting their monthly quiz night, which was a massive hit. The quiz master was a great host too. Karen & Jody from reception particularly stood out as they offered excellent customer service, especially when we had a booking issue. They were friendly, chatty & insightful. A credit to your hotel!

"Not a Continental Breakfast or suitable for people with dietary requirements"

6.0

The hotel itself is lovely, clean, warm & welcoming. Our room (executive suite) was very spacious, laid out lovely and the shower was amazing! I expect the balcony would have been nice for the summer, although there is a heater for the colder weather. Unfortunately the balcony is enclosed but the room made up for it. Fresh bottles of water every day, tea/coffee topped up, clean towels, fresh bedding, room cleaned. The negatives - Most of the staff were very helpful but unfortunately we did come across a couple of members of staff who came across rude & like we had bothered them unnecessarily. We had a 'continental breakfast' in with our room price, although I would not call it that. As a coeliac, there were no options for me, all pastry or bread, diary yoghurt & only oak milk or cows milk available (on one morning, no oak milk on another morning). There was no option of fruit, gluten free bread/pastries. A hot breakfast could have been purchased at an extra cost. My husband doesn't eat pork so to see 'slabs' of ham on a plate as soon as we entered the 'restaurant' was not very appealing, especially as there were no separate utensils to use for the slabs of ham & cheese. When we asked if they had an alternate for pork we were told there were only vegan sausages. No chicken, fish etc. We were told this very ubruptly and made us feel very awkward and unwelcome so we left and went to a cafe for our breakfast. Because of this we also didnt want dinner in the hotel. We were made to feel very unwelcome at breakfast because of our dietary needs. There is not much option for the 'continental breakfast', nor many utensils to use for the different foods. Overall we enjoyed our stay in our room but would have booked elsewhere had we known the eating arrangements were poor.

"On a cloud at the San Clu!"

8.0

Loved our stay at the San Clu at the end of summer and finally got around to writing this review. We had a weekend to spend on the Isle of Thanet and located ourselves in Ramsgate for the trip. San Clu is such a gem with a very interesting history and a superb location towards the top of Victoria Parade overlooking the sea. The hotel has parking right outside, we arrived early and had no issues getting a spot. There is a lounge area with seating both inside and outside and a garden on the side of the property where some inflatables had been blown up for younger guests, what a lovely touch as we saw them enjoying themselves when we returned in the early evening at the end of the day. We were allocated the 'Harbour Suite' for our family room which was on the first floor with direct sea views. The suite was part of the frontage that has the original Victorian enclosed glass terrace, absolutely stunning and what a relaxing, calm space to enjoy the views with a glass of wine to unwind. The suite was very spacious with two single beds and a double sofa-bed for the children. This was positioned right in front of the tv therefore our kids were in 7th heaven as they could relax on the bed and indulge in some telly after a busy day! All the usual room amenities with teas/coffees were very welcome, the bathroom was brand-new and spacious. We booked dinner at the hotel as the menu seemed reasonable and they had a rare spot available - the hotel were hosting a Dolly Parton evening so it was lucky they had a table left for us. We enjoyed some decent meals, the restaurant was fully packed for the entertainment and some families had clearly chosen the event for their special occasions too. There was a nice buzz and my son's face when 'Dolly' came out was hilarious! Having said that, due to our early start and very busy day sight-seeing, we didn't see the show out. There was a bit of noise from the revellers downstairs after we went to bed, however it was nothing too bad and we were knackered so slept through. Breakfast buffet was included in the price of the stay and was really plentiful, lots of choice and everything was laid out beautifully in the dining room with attention to cleanliness and detail. A waffle-maker was set up on it's own table which was left to guests' use - a novelty for the kids and they loved having the autonomy to follow the steps and make their waffle themselves and then choose from a variety of delicious toppings. It's a shame we couldn't have stayed longer, would have loved another night at the Harbour Suite just relaxing in the conservatory terrace. As such, I can really recommend the San Clu, the hotel has reassuringly old-fashioned values and it tries it's best to offer a great, comfortable stay.
