"Probably more like 3.5 than 4 stars "

8.0

OK so first thing to say is that we are not normally " all inclusive " type of travellers . We don't drink much and are not hugely adventurous eaters either, so not the normal Sandals type customers really . So while it was lovely and enjoyable...it's probably more suited to those people who love this kind of holiday. I am being very honest with this review in the hope it's useful to other travellers. Firstly what we loved about the place . It's beautiful, there is no denying Jamaica looks stunning and the resort is fantastically presented and maintained. The staff were always friendly and plentiful. The drinks were fabulous..lots of variety and the cocktails in particular were awesome ( I'd recommend a Bob Marley to anyone...even if it's not listed on the menu ) The highlight of everything for me was the room ...beautiful, comfortable and with a swim up terrace to a lovely warm, quiet pool . The bathtub on the balcony was lovely too , but I think the privacy curtains on our terrace could have been longer and maybe fastened better, we used the tie backs to fashion a way to keep them closed in the wind . The room was always immaculately kept and cleaned by Roseanne and when we ran out of shower gel , she got us more when we asked . The drinks in the room were always replenished, including sparkling wine, everyday . I also loved the beach and in particular the private island . The clothing optional beach was the quietest and most beautiful. We also went out snuba diving and this was also brilliant and our guide ( I believe think his name was Mikos? ) was lovely and helpful....this did however come with an additional charge of $125 pp. This leads me on to what we weren't keen on during the stay ....the extra costs . There was a seemingly never ending array of people asking us for extras ...from the souvenir sellers who also offer you drugs to the offer of expensive wines , even more expensive spa treatments or payable photographs too . My understanding was there was to be no tipping at Sandals, so we didn't bring any cash , yet the baggage guy at the airport , the driver , the boat captain all asked for tips and we felt bad because we didn't have anything to give . I know American culture is more geared towards tipping than us Brits so others were more prepared for this , and we would have been if we'd known this was going to be asked . Overall, the place is geared to an American audience and the staff seemed much more friendly towards the Americans than us , not saying they weren't friendly , but the Americans certainly seemed to get much more banter and better service than we did . We had some brilliant service at times...Fabian in the pub was consistently lovely , Ruschel at the pool bar was brilliant and the lady in the Indian restaurant was also superb , unfortunately we didn't catch her name , overall the service was very good and the addition of being given a hospitality room after we checked out so we could freshen up and change before our flight was a brilliant bonus ......however we did have a few issues . The main one was with our credit card . It was declined several times when trying to add it to our room . Club Sandals didn't seem particularly bothered and suggested we try and ring our bank . We did that ( at expensive additional phone costs ) to be told it was all fine , we just need to use chip and pin and not swipe . We told this to reception who told us the chip and pin machines don't work and we'd just have to pay as we go ( how we'd do this I never know ) ...not very helpful at all . And Club Sandals again let us down when I asked if the tv in our room could connect to the smart services like YouTube and Netflix as they didn't seem to work ....we were told " no they won't work " , no reason for this ...and later on when I tried fiddling with it myself , I managed to connect them perfectly...it was as if they just couldn't be bothered to help us . Same with our luggage when we checked in . We were told it would be put in our room when we arrived ....after half an hour waiting for a change of clothes , I just went and grabbed it from reception myself - as I offered to do at the start. I think I should mention the food as well ....it was good . Just good , nothing exceptional apart from the local Jamaican food . The jerk chicken shack and in particular the patties were stunning. The day to day food was OK, breakfast was plentiful but nothing special, only cooked to order omelettes were very good, the rest was just average and the fact that we had to hunt daily for cutlery was really poor . I mean , why not just have a plie put out for people to take? You shouldn't have to go and find someone every morning and be directed to another part of the resort to ASK for silverware. One morning I didnt even get a spoon ... have you ever tried eating cornflakes with a fork ? The 2 restaurants that stood out were the Indian ( different from British Indian food ) but excellent quality and service. And the French restaurant food was also excellent. The Italian, British, pizza and grill snacks were all a decent standard but not excellent. Overall every dessert we had was disappointing. Ranging from bland to inedible in the case of the apple crumble . I did like the DIY ice cream behind the pool bar though. Lastly , the entertainment was disappointing too .Aside from the activities like jewellery making and wood ornament painting, which my wife really enjoyed and the very windy pool table which was funny trying to play on.....the evening events were pretty stale .....Yes, the singers could sing , but it was very minimal effort and several technical issues with the mics etc didn't help ...and just a tip...if you're going to do a " Broadway night " ...put some actual Broadway numbers in there. There was not one tune recognisable as a song from a musical. All in all....this was a lovely holiday . Wonderful setting , beautiful sea, pools and cocktails. Friendly staff ( mostly ) and if you're big into all inclusive resorts , you'll probably be hard pushed to beat it . But for me , it was a little wasted and a few minor problems took the shine off a little . Hope this honest review is of use to fellow travellers.

"Anniversary Trip"

10.0

My husband and I just arrived home from our anniversary trip to Royal Caribbean. We had a prefect stay! Our room was in the new Balmoral building, we had a beachfront walkout with private pool. It was perfect. It was windy a few days and we could hang out on our patio where we were shielded from the wind and still had a direct view of the ocean. Our butler team was Jerome and Sherry-Ann. They took great care of us. Jerome would surprise us with a new cocktail when getting us for dinner and brought us evening snacks. They made sure we had beach chairs and a stocked cooler each day. They handled our dinner reservations too. The only negative was I felt no one looked at our butler preferences that we submitted prior to arriving. Not a big deal though. The resort is close to the airport so a short transfer but also means you see/hear planes throughout the day. It did not bother us. We thought the food was good. We ate at Spices, Royal Thai, Le Jardiner, La Tavaola, and Jerk Shack. The Jerk Shack was amazing! Overall it was the perfect relaxing trip we envisioned! I would not hesitate to go here again. All the staff is super friendly and helpful.

"Relaxing stay at Sandals again"

10.0

We enjoyed staying in the new Balmoral building with our first visit to this sandals. The resort was small and cozy with options to go to private island and also bus over to the sister, MoBay Sandals. We enjoyed the jerk shack on the island and Oleander at the other resort. Our butlers were great, Jerome, AKA King Jerry was one of our best butlers ever. Food was good overall, loved Indian restaurant, Thai restaurant on the island was nice spot and decorated but food was nothing that special and routine Thai available in the US. French restaurant was disappointing. Not sure why it was a tough reservation. There was no evidence that it was french restaurant with Sandals posters on the wall . Door was open to the bar next door with pulsating music . Food was pretty good . Grounds were beautiful with great flowers and well kept grounds. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

"FABULOUS!!!"

10.0

FANTASTIC TRIP! My sisters and I took this trip with our mother who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer. We truly had the BEST trip! Everyone was so nice. Our Butlers Rayo and Cooper were AMAZING. The Butler Supervisor Kishner, spent a lot of time walking around and checking in with guests. He was interested in how the vacation was going and it was genuine. They truly made our trip. Most everyone was extremely friendly. The hotel, grounds and beach are gorgeous. The water was calm and perfect for our mother to get into. The food was also good. Looking forward to returning in November!

"Best 20 year anniversary ever!"

10.0

Had the greatest time here. Our butlers, Alex and Roland were amazing. They were the absolute best in taking care of us during our stay here. We had an over the water bungalow which was just as amazing. It was our 20 year anniversary and from the day we got there till the day we left they made everyday feel like our special day. I can’t wait to go back and enjoy the Jamaican sun. The people are fantastic and very friendly. If you ever have a chance to go to Jamaica, do t hesitate and just do it.

"Love Sandals Royal Caribbean!"

10.0

Our trip to Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, Jamaica was just what we needed! We loved having Keno and Twain as our butlers. They made our trip even more memorable with special, fun, and personalized touches throughout our stay. It was our first time with butlers and we felt very pampered! The resort itself is beautiful, including a private island which we enjoyed for a relaxing cabana day. We also enjoyed taking the dragon boat over to the island for dinner at the Royal Thai restaurant. Another perk is you can visit the original Sandals at Montego Bay with a quick shuttle ride to sample some of their restaurants and amenities. We always love having dinner at Butch’s steakhouse. One highlight of our trip that she recommended was the Reading Road Trip where we visited a local school to read with preschool children. It was so much fun! We loved the island, people, and resort so much that we booked the same resort again! See you again soon Jamaica!
