Pendry Chicago

We travelled to Chicago to experience Christmastime in the city and celebrate a milestone birthday. This was our second stay at Pendry Chicago; last time we stayed in a corner king room (2112) and this time we stayed in the one bedroom river view corner suite (2212). The suite was essentially the size of two rooms combined - one as a spacious bedroom with sitting table and bench and the other with a sitting table, bench, pull out sofa, and coffee table. The suite spanned the length of one side of the hotel, allowing for views in 3 directions! We stayed 8 nights and wanted to still enjoy some of our Christmas decorations, so you will see some lights, etc. in the photos posted that are our own (to avoid any confusion). It is a beautiful hotel, inside and out. It is a stunning historical building both on the outside and the lobby area by the elevators makes you feel like you are back in time with beautiful preserved designs. The rooms are clean, classy, light and airy, and well designed, with lots of outlets. The showers are comfortable and easy to use, with good water pressure. The toiletries are lightly fragranced and very nice (I don’t like fragrance so I brought my own of everything but tried the hotel’s a couple days before check-out and discovered how nice and light they were and that they didn’t bother me at all). The beds are on the firmer side with crisp linens and down duvets and pillows. You can also ask for foam pillows as well if you prefer. The robes are some of the softest I have felt (and are available for purchase as well). The location is perfect, a block from the river and at the top of the loop! There is a delicious Jasmine - Orange - Green Tea punch in the lobby that you can enjoy during your stay and are able to get spiked at the bar once during your stay. Some people really made our stay extra special and we are so grateful for that! The first was Muriel ~ she made our stay extra special last time and this time! She goes above and beyond to ensure guests know how to make the most of their stay and what the hotel offers so that their needs are taken care of. She is incredibly hard working, thoughtful, and is very knowledgeable about the property and Chicago! She made great suggestions on what buildings to go in and explore. Chris was the bellman who helped us on arrival bring our bags up to our room and oriented us to the property and room. He was very kind, warm, and helpful! After the first day, whenever we ran into Chris in the hotel, he made us feel so welcome and remembered us. He also was very hard working and would go above and beyond to make us feel valued and comfortable. Natalie first welcomed us to the hotel was often on in evenings when we would come back from being out for the day; she was always so warm and friendly, always was able to answer any questions, and ensured we had what we needed. Michael was the bellman who helped us with our bags on departure and he also was so kind and friendly, sharing some laughs and helping us with our things and ensuring we got the right taxi for our needs. My mom and I would often leave and come back together, but one evening my mom came back to the hotel on her own and Dolopo welcomed her back and walked her to the elevators, calling one for her, which was a personal and thoughtful touch! Annie the concierge was very knowledgeable and helpful and provided us with discounts for the ‘fly over Chicago’ experience (highly recommend)! The two main ladies from house-keeping (I am so sorry, I lost the note where I wrote down their names) who cleaned our room (2212) so beautifully during our stay (Dec 13-21) were always SO friendly and kind when we would see them in the hallway - we miss seeing them already! Why I would choose this hotel again: location, style, atmosphere, cleanliness, professionalism, helpfulness, quick elevators, lots of food/drink options on site from a coffee shop to bar to restaurant to rooftop, fridge/microwave/hot water kettle (available upon request, subject to availability), complimentary car service (first come first serve) on weekends within a 2 mile radius of the hotel, windows that open a little should you want that, mattresses/box springs are encased in a protective cover to ensure no nightmare insect hotel situations (I won’t write the word here, but if you care about that, you know what i mean and this hotel you will not have that concern and won’t feel like you need to obsessively check!) Things to be aware of: this hotel can get VERY busy and there can be waits and delays to check in/things delivered to your room, etc. Just keep that in mind if that is something that would dampen your experience. As well, with its prime location and being in the fun hustle and bustle of the city, there is some road noise, understandably; both times we had higher rooms so I can’t speak to how it is on the lower floors but in the 21st and 22nd floor it didn’t hinder sleep. All things considering, if you are looking for a professional team, clean accommodations, lots of history and style, and the perfect (in our opinion) location, Pendry Chicago could certainly be a good option for you! Great location to a great weekend in Chicago. A very historical building with a very cozy and comfortable lobby. The check-in took a while since there were long lines for the holidays. We were able to get a free upgrade, which was delightful. Sadly, we were disappointed that the room’s toilet was backed up, and after calling for fixing, the problem was still not fixed properly. We also dined at the French restaurant Vemteux on the first floor. The eggs Benedict with king crab was delicious. But the French onion soup was tasty but way way way too salty, and the mussels were sadly not very flavorful. So overall, other than a great location, was a bit disappointed in service and food.

We recently stayed here for three nights, and also had a photoshoot with a professional photographer in the bar area. The hotel itself is fantastic, great facilities, lovely to look at. The service is great - a special shoutout to Laura S (events coordinator) who helped us organised the photo shoot well within hotel guidelines. Massive appreciation from us both!

We decided to celebrate our anniversary at the Pendry and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was ideal as we had tickets to a show at the Chicago Theater. Our room was well appointed and comfortable although the bathroom was a bit cramped. The hotel’s gym was next level, complete with Peloton bikes and Hyperice equipment. Special thank you to guest services supervisor Muriel for going above and beyond in recognizing our special occasion - she made us feel like VIPs with her personalized attention. We will definitely return because of her first class service and the hotel is extremely fortunate to have someone like her on the staff!

Extremely disappointing stay at a hotel that has been on our list for a long time as part of an Amex benefit. First, despite a clear check in time, there was no room ready until close to 5 pm which is absolutely unbelievable. Upon check in there was no info about when a room might be ready from the person at the desk, just a shrug and said I’d get a text eventually. With that in mind we had to cancel a dinner reservation as there was no way we’d make it given the delay we were experiencing. Once we finally got a room we were told the on-site hotel was booked solid and room service was our only option. No apology, no contrition, no understanding that the hotel had completely overcommitted itself with Amex cardholders the night before. Once we ordered room service, the food was incredibly average for the price tag and our drink was forgotten. The person helping was very kind but it took over a half an hour before the drink arrived and was subsequently taken off our bill. Our room was on a low floor and street noise was very clear throughout the night. Once we woke up we got room service again due to the restaurant being full. We went over the $60 breakfast allotment as there does not seem to be a way to have a meal for two under that number. It does not appear that the overage was taken out of our $100 hotel credit - but I could be wrong as it is not possible to read the bill I’ve been sent to understand what was or wasn’t taken off. All in all we left well before our 4pm checkout as we didn’t feel welcome or the need to stay any longer after a disappointing experience. As someone who travels a great deal, this was such a letdown from a premier property at an iconic building. I’ll also be leaving a similar review with Amex as there are so many options in Chicago that treat guests the way they should.

I really, really wanted to love this hotel. The gorgeous green Carbide and Carbon building with it's restored green exterior and gleaming gold, deco elevator doors compliment the design forward common areas. I thought "this is super cool". My husband and I are experienced travelers and booked 3 nights at another hotel and 3 here for a change in flavor. I was in town to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived, the best description of the lobby scene was pandemonium. We joined a long line that stretched to the bar. A few minutes in, a bell person asked if they could take my luggage. Before they could ask my name, they whisked it away on a cart and held it towards the front of the line. I guess I'd better keep an eye on it, I thought. It took about 30 minutes to get to the front of the line. Someone did take my luggage and store it when we got towards the front of the line. "Your room's not ready", we'll text you". 2 desk agents were trying to handle the crowd and were overwhelmed "we just checked in 200 rooms". We sat in the adjacent area (the bar was full) with many other people who were also waiting for there rooms, and drank some really delicious jasmine tea from a dispenser next to the front desk. The fireplace in the bar looked lovely, and I made a mental note to return when the madness calmed down to use it (I never got a chance, the bar was always too packed). An hour and 15 minutes later, my bank sent me a text that showed a preauthorization for $827. I had pre-paid the room, followed by a text from the Pendry offering assistance with my CHECKOUT (!). Still no text regarding our room being ready, I went to investigate. "Oh, nobody texted you?" and "That's weird" when I showed them the preauth and "adios" text. She retrieved our room keys from a small file. I had seen this hotel on AMEX Fine Hotels and Resorts and had used my credit elsewhere (thank God) and booked the Pendry separately. One poor man held his FHR letter in his hand, mouth agape, as the front desk barked at him that there were no upgrades available. The bell person who had been manning the front door tried to find the person who had taken our luggage and after a bit of a wait, my bags were unceremoniously dumped on me in the middle of the lobby. Welcome to the Pendry. The room was clean, the freestanding closet a little small, but equipped with quality hangers and a steamer. Room is equipped with a refrigerated mini bar and additional liquor topside. There were 2 lovely glass bottles of water I wasn't sure we could drink without charge as we'd been told basically nothing beyond "here's your key, the elevator is over there". We had a nice high floor (21). The rooms look great in the photos, in person they are kind of ordinary. The bed was extremely comfortable with nice linens and pillows, I slept well. The toiletries smell heavenly, a Pendry exclusive. The shower is cramped and the build a little chintzy (think entry level Home Depot) but with a nice shower head and good water pressure, I had to use the washcloth to hold the shower door closed as it kept trying to coast open. The next morning, I called room service to order a pot of coffee and was informed there was a 2 hour wait for room service, but there was complimentary coffee in the lobby. The in room Keurig machines are a nice touch, the coffee pods aren't very good. Coffee in the lobby was thoroughly decent and no line to serve yourself. Next text "we noticed that you have a do not disturb sign...housekeeping..." I responded that I had removed the sign (we had done it a while back). 3 hours later "thank you, we have informed our team". Then 3pm another "we noticed..." text. Ahem. Returned to the room and it wasn't cleaned. They eventually got around to it late afternoon. We chuckled and decided the room was decent and we would just not count on any sort of service or use of the on site amenities beyond lobby coffee. Long story short, after 2 nights we checked out a day early and went to another hotel. Upon checkout, I was informed that if I checked out officially, I would be charged an early checkout fee equal to one night. "The room is already prepaid". Front desk acted like she was doing me a favor by not charging me for an additional night (which I had already paid for). Upon checkout, I watched someone received at the door, "bags will follow", the sort of care everyone should get at the Pendry, being received at the door (and ideally your experience tracked from beginning to end). This hotel is woefully understaffed and what's delivered is a 3 star hotel at best. I was saddened by this, the building is gorgeous and has vibe in spades. The staff is exhausted. What could fix this place? Hire more staff for starters. Pendry promises a curated guest experience from beginning to end but leaves guests to stitch together their own stay.

Came in town to celebrate our engagement and the holiday season. Anne, the concierge, set us up with a beautiful room and lovely touches to congratulate us. Hotel overall was spotless, room was comfortable and the over all experience was worth it. We can’t wait to stay again!

ReAlly nice hotel and well located. Rooms are decent and clean. Team is amazing. Only comment to do is that room service is over priced, they will charge you for the service 8 dolar + 22% tip… tip should be at the guest decision it took long time to arrive and half cold the breakfast so 22% is way too much for the service received. Other than this perfect stay.
