Castle at Makahuena at Poipu

We had a one bedroom suite over 2 floors. Very spacious and clean. Great sea view.

The condo was bigger than what we expected which was great. It's definitely an old building and living space. The furniture has certainly seen better days, though the bed was very comfortable. Closets smelled musty so I didn't use them. The kitchen has an electric stove so it was a challenge for us to cook. For our purposes, the location was fantastice so we'd probably book it again. It's walkable to beaches and driving distance to all the attractions. There is no maid service for the rental but not really necessary since there is a washer/dryer in the unit. All in all a good stay.

We were very disappointed upon our arrival as we had to go down a flight of stairs, then up two flights to get to our unit, and then up another huge flight of stairs to get to our bedroom. Our unit was on the end of the building. First impression was a very old rotten screen door. Once inside the unit we were pleasantly surprised with the perfect ocean view. The unit is very dated, no upgrades! Worst yet, no A/C and it was very warm!! It appeared that the unit had been empty for some time as the dishes in the cabinets were very dusty and dirty! The bed was underneath a window that appeared to have termite damage?? GROSS! During our stay there was a water valve that broke, we lost water and were unable to shower for some time. Once the water was turned back on, when I got out of the shower I saw the toilet was running continually and leaking all over the floor! What a mess. Thankfully maintenance was fairly quick to respond. I have to say that for what we paid, we could have stayed down the road in a brand new place where we stayed in March and it would have been well worth the extra few hundred dollars!

Our 2 bedroom with loft was very comfortable. We were concerned about the lack of AC but it was a non issue, the trade winds were always blowing and our unit 4310 was and end unit with balcony on two sides and great view of ocean. We really enjoyed our stay at Castle Makahuena.

We arrived 4 hours early and our room was ready. What a great condo. Two bedrooms 2 1/2 baths, comfortable furniture, well stocked kitchen. Overall outstanding.... No AC is the only negative, but on the other hand the trade winds and fans made the stay very pleasing. The grounds were spectacular with crews out working every day.

We stayed in an Ocean Front two bedroom for a night while waiting for our timeshare week in Lihue. The room was decorated nicely with a full kitchen. No AC but no big deal for us. The office staff was very friendly with check in and check out with no hassles. Definitely would recommend getting an ocean front room for even one night if you were staying here longer. We used the jacuzzi and pool also and they were quite nice.

I recently visited the beautiful island of Kauai with my family. The location was great and I would come back here ONLY if the condo gets some major cleaning. The pillows on the wicker furniture looked old and gross. Everything looked old. This will be a home away from home and I feel the condo owners should at least make an effort to sprucing the place up a bit. Nothing fancy but just inviting and comfy. The other draw back I didn't like is that there was no WI-FI and housekeeping was available but for a fee. This place has a lot of potential and it is in a great location but it needs a little updating. Other than that this place is in a perfect location. Shipwrecks Beach and Poipu Beach were a hop skip and a jump away. The Big Save market is a short driving distance away as are the shopping centers. I really feel in love with this island and would come back if I could next week!

Front office does not have convenient hours of operation. We arrived, had to figure out how to get into our room, finally found the envelope that included a phone number to call to get the code to a box to access the key to our room.... which would have been fine if there were clear directions on how to do this and what to look for and expect. We quickly tried to find our room and unlock the door due to the on property loitering, but the lock on the door was more difficult than usual to open. Once inside, the first thing I noticed was the overwhelming musty smell and worst of all, a total lack of privacy. There were no curtains on the window to prevent anyone from the parking lot from looking in at us (we were just about eye level with anyone walking/parking through the parking lot)! Furniture is outdated and not that it's entirely needed, but no air conditioning is provided.

This is a beautiful condo in a beautiful spot. It is very roomy. The porch on both sides is a great benefit.

This place was not as pictured. The furniture was worn and musty smelling. The windows to the view were not clean. There are many steps and no air conditioning, so moving in at 3:00 in the afternoon was a sweaty experience. One sleepless night, so glad it was only one.
