Hotel Alhaurín Golf Resort

We’re just coming to the end of a mini break here and it’s been wonderful. Having read other reviews, I’m, so the carpets may be a bit worn, the tv doesn’t have English channels, but you’re in Spain! The hotel is clean as a whistle and has lovely outdoor spaces. The breakfast at €10,00 is a bargain as the choice is plentiful and as for the lunch, they offer a €12,00 menu of the day and it was delicious. Our room was spacious and again, immaculately clean. OK, no one likes a shower curtain, but come on, it’s not the end of the world is it? WiFi was a bit erratic, but again, it was nice to have a break from all that save being glued to the beeping phone all day. Then right next door you have two great eateries and a fantastic golf course that will test you to the max. Late checkout to 3pm available giving us an extra session around the beautiful pool area and one more estrella for the road. I love it here!

Misleading property in poor condition. The hotel is not a golf resort in grounds as it implies. It is a stand alone hotel the other side of a main road with a golf course sufficiently far away that you'd need to take your car. The rooms are tired and dated, we were in three until we found one which matched what we had booked and had a working WC that didn't run continually and a safe that locked, although even the final room had mould all around the sealant on the bath. One morning there was no water at all, the next two it cycled cold-hot when showering. There was NO WIFI in the rooms, seems to have been unavailable for months according to reception. Buffet breakfast was particularly poor - cold food (with a microwave next to it, as they knew there was an issue), part broken toaster, very limited fruit selection, most days just cornflakes - although twice we saw raw oats with the odd sultana masquerading as muesli. Tiny, unheated swimming pool. Hotel hosts low budget wedding receptions that whilst we were there became rowdy, and that reception have no interest in quieting down. Omnipresent security guard with threatening demeanour and long assault baton summed up the rest of the atmosphere.

Friendly helpful staff, country side views and quiet surroundings.

I was wondering whether to give the hotel a 2 or a 1 star rating but there were just too many negative points to justify a 2 star. Firstly there was no working WIFI in the rooms. It has been broken for a month or so but seems to have no priority for repair. This is totally unacceptable in the 21st century where WIFI in hotel rooms is now a basic facility. There are quite simple and cheap solutions to repair the problem that should only have taken hours not weeks but this is one example where the hotel seems to have little interest for it's guests. *** ROOMS *** The showers are in the BATH with a PLASTIC CURTAIN. This sort of facility is normally only found in cheap 1 star hotels definitely not 3 star or better hotels. The two person rooms only have ONE chair, so one guest has to lay on the bed while the other can sit. The TV only has Spanish channels, even though nearly all guests are foreign. Some English channels are the minimum expectation. International satellite or internet TV streaming is normal these days but not at Alhaurin Golf Hotel. The TV in the room is a very CHEAP TV. Not even possible cast to it. *** RESTAURANT *** Breakfast has RICE & tough pressed meat instead of the real bacon and fried potatoes of normal hotels and the mushrooms were very heavy with garlic and obviously out of a tin and quite unpleasant. (I've never seen rice instead of fried potatoes for breakfast in a European hotel before.) The 'hot' buffet is also mostly COLD and needs to be warmed up under the bread toaster. There is a poor fresh fruit choice. Also stupid simple things, like having no orange juice for several days .. *** It is definitely NOT the breakfast quality expected in a 4 star hotel *** The first afternoon we arrived we ordered an ice cream. It wasn't shown on the menu but asking was told it was available. When it arrived, it was just two VERY SMALL balls of ice. I was shocked when I saw on the bill that each small ball was €3.50..(€14 for two small ices). The normal price elsewhere for a LARGE ball of ice cream is +/-€ 1.50.. (Alhaurin here is +/- 300% overpriced). While waiting for the ice cream in the restaurant, we heard other guests ordering, but many things on the menu were no longer available, therefore we decided never to eat there. *** GENERAL *** Carpets in the corridor are completely worn and threadbare (with holes) and should have been changed long ago. The impression this hotel gives is that it does everything as cheaply as possible with very minimum expense. Quality is apparently low on the priority list. The fact that Alhaurin Golf Hotel has had several changes of owner in recent years may have something to do with the lack of interest for the customer. The hotel also seems to be catering largely to groups with several bus loads of Chinese arriving while we were there. These problems were discussed with the local hotel management during the stay and they were made aware it was unacceptable.. I'll be interested to know if it makes any difference. (Talking to club members, I find the hotel has a bad reputation at the nearby Alhaurin golf club)

Good all round. Nice location, friendly reception and staff. Would recommend.

Lovely location, approx 45/50mins inland. Nice and quiet, fantastic staff , specially the Lady from Chili at reception 😊 breakfast was lovely .. the building is slightly older style but suits the area, which is great for exploring the mountains on bike or hiking.. local town 10mins away has everything you could also need. Would ataf again ..

We made a booking in November 2023 and were 'accidentally' charged twice for the same booking. Despite contacting the hotel immediately, who have confirmed the error, and despite repeated phone calls and e-mails we are still waiting for the refund of the money 3 months later. Reception claim they can do nothing, only the hotel 'administration' has the authority to make refunds. It is not possible to communicate with administration and we are just fobbed off with more excuses and false promises. Do not make a booking with this hotel if you don't want to be robbed!

A nice hotel but showing its age in places. Only coffee pod machine in the room and €10 for a small pack of pods. Breakfast was good and featured everything you might want. Location is good as well

This hotel has taken 1120 euros in prepayment for golf from my wife and her three friends for a golf trip in Sept 2023. On arrival they were told that they would have to pay at the golf course as the golf course and hotel had ended their arrangement. and that their payment to the hotel would be refunded. To date the hotel has not refunded their payment. The Department of Consumer Affairs in Malaga and Ireland have been formally notified. If you plan on booking a golf package please be aware of this .

Excellent Hotel. It is primarily situated as a 'Golf Hotel' but we used it because it is an excellent facility. Always book early to ensure a place. The food is excellent with a wide choice and generally, the hotel provides a great service.
