Kihei Surfside - Maui Condo & Home

We stayed in unit 101 for seven nights - a two bedroom oceanfront end unit of the Kihei Surfside. The decor was dated with a 70's era matching flooring and countertop combo that looked like tan colored slabs of rock tile, and didn't look like it was very clean (which the dirty bottoms of my bare feet would confirm later). The cabinetry was the original white, but the kitchen was fabulously stocked with cookware and utensils. Both bedrooms had queen-sized beds, both of which were not the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on, but a step up from a hotel mattress. The bathrooms were a bit nicer - still the ugly flooring/countertop rock, but the walls had a more modern granite tile. The shower fixtures, however, were dated and looked like they needed a good soak in CLR to clean them up. We had unexpected guests the first night - two roaches on the floor, one in the sink. We left early in the morning for a horseback ride, and Terminix had left a note on the door that the unit had been treated. Didn't see more roaches until two days later, and they were dead or dying, but still, gross considering how much we were paying for the unit. On the positive side was the fantastic view - can't get much better! The Kihei Surfside is located on a very grassy bluff above a rocky ledge. Our unit, being on the end, was closest to the ocean, and I got what I came for - having the ocean at my doorstep and being able to hear the waves. Watched turtles feed on the ledge from the lanai.

I travel to Maui regularly (2-3x a year), and this was my first time at Kihei Surfside. The location and views are stunning, and the expansive lawn area right in front of the condo is the best kept I have seen outside of a golf course. The top floor condo (613) was well-maintained and well-stock with all the conveniences. Very friendly and helpful front desk. Happy hour at Five Palms was excellent. 2 minor things -- no sponge in the kitchen, and there were only 2 lids for pots and pans. Neither was a big deal since I just prepared very simple meals, if at all.

Nice, quit and comfortable. We stayed on the 4th floor and the view was fantastic!

I stayed at Surfside from June 7-12, 2010. It was more than I expected. The checkin was easy as I only needed to get the access code from the owner of unti 106. The unit was clean, cozy, and needed nothing but my own food. The stores and shopping on the south side where from 5 minutes away. The unit was ground level so that we could walked right outside the lanai and into the beautiful green lawn which led directly to the ocean. There was a walkpath (less than 2 minutes) to the beach entry. We BBQ everynight alongside the nice pool. I had to get use to the birds chirping outside the window of the bedroom but everything was wonderful. Also the unit had no AC but the fans kept it nice and pleasant. This was a great place to stay for our honeymoon! This was my first stay in Maui and I will definitely stay here again because the view was priceless!!!
