I booked this Inn due to its proximity to my son in the Mission. This area can be a bit gritty but the Inn is close to restaurants and shops on Valencia. The mansion itself is lovely but our room was definitely a disappointment. The images on their website were misleading. The bathroom is actually in the room itself. When you step out of the tub/ shower you’re out in the open with no privacy. (Plus there’s no where to put your soap or shampoo expect precariously perched on the rim ) There is a water closet type of toilet. (I’ve lived in Europe and frequently the bathroom and toilet are in separate rooms so that what I imagined when they said water closet toilet). When you’re in bed you’re looking at the tub and sink. For $325/ night I expected a better room. This location isn’t in a “fancy” party of SF but very convenient for seeing the town by public transit. When I brought my concerns to the front desk - they at first were very dismissive and said I could leave and find new accommodations. We were there visiting only for 3 nights - I wanted to be within walking distance of our son so that really was not an option. They then sent an email saying they could move us for our last night or give us a 15 % discount. We were leaving early Monday and out sightseeing Sunday so we decided wasn’t worth coming home early afternoon to change rooms. The breakfast was fantastic. The gardens are very pretty and relaxing. The front desk clerk could have benefited from some basic customer service training.

The stay starts off with a little historical tour. Rooms are quiet & dark at night. Communal area are lovely and facilitate socializing if you like or relaxing alone time. Loved the secret garden and roof top views.

The breakfast was great but the property really does feel its age. It has a musty smell and very dated inside. I get that it’s an aesthetic choice and in some ways it’s quite charming, but also slightly creepy! The mission district is also horrendous for drug addicts roaming the streets which we didn’t realise. You don’t feel unsafe as such, but it’s just very bleak, very dirty and quite smelly in the surrounding area. Sorry to say that If I was to go back I’d stay somewhere else.
