The location was really amazing. The staff.

I got really disappointed with some things I believed I would not find in a 5* hotel. The maintenance of the property, was way far from what I expected. The cleanliness of the room was bad. The breakfast was included but they charging 17 euros for plain pancakes. They charges, 40 euros (!!) per day to charge your car. I’ve been traveling for the whole Tuscany, for 9 days and this hotel was the only that charged me this.

Our stay at Castello di Velona was absolutely unforgettable and one of the highlights of our trip to Tuscany. The setting is breathtaking, with spectacular views over the rolling hills and vineyards of Val d'Orcia. Every corner of the property feels special, and the rooms were immaculate, spacious, and beautifully maintained. The attention to detail and cleanliness throughout the hotel was exceptional. A heartfelt thank you to Gloria and Ellen for the wonderful massages. Their professionalism, expertise, and caring approach made for an incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating experience. They are both truly talented therapists and made our spa experience unforgettable. We also loved the wine tasting with Elena and Valentina. Their knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm for the local wines made the experience both educational and enjoyable. It was fantastic to discover that the wines can be shipped directly to Australia, so we can continue enjoying a taste of Tuscany when we return home. The food was outstanding throughout our stay. A special mention goes to the Spaghetti all’Amatriciana, which was absolutely delicious—rich, authentic, and one of the best versions of this classic Italian dish we have ever tasted. Complimenti allo chef! From the stunning views and luxurious accommodations to the exceptional spa treatments, incredible wine experiences, and outstanding cuisine, everything about our stay was first class. Un soggiorno semplicemente perfetto. Panorama mozzafiato, camere impeccabili, massaggi fantastici con Gloria ed Ellen, una splendida degustazione con Elena e Valentina, e una Spaghetti all’Amatriciana da sogno. Grazie di cuore a tutto il team di Castello di Velona per l'ospitalità e la professionalità. Non vediamo l'ora di tornare. Rates were in line with comparable properties, but the restaurant, drinks and other onsite offerings were unreasonably expensive.

The scenery

I was extremely disappointed with my stay at Castello di Velona. For a property that positions itself as a luxury destination, the overall standard of service and maintenance fell far below expectations. The room was not properly cleaned on arrival and housekeeping throughout the stay was inconsistent and disappointing. The service levels were particularly poor. There was little to no meaningful introduction to the hotel's amenities, facilities, or guest services, leaving us to figure things out ourselves. Staff appeared disengaged, and there was a noticeable lack of attention to guest experience. Maintenance standards were also lacking, with several aspects of the property showing signs of neglect. Overall, there seemed to be a significant disconnect between the premium rates charged and the quality of service delivered. Unfortunately, the combination of poor housekeeping, inadequate guest service, weak maintenance standards, and a general lack of hospitality made this a very disappointing experience. I would not recommend Castello di Velona based on our stay. Erica Carstens (South Africa)
