"Fairly good stay, best for avid skiiers and snowboarders planning to be on the slopes all day."

5.0

This hotel is in such an amazing location for skiiers and snowboarders. It is located right near the slopes, Evergreen Ski School and Rythm Rental Wadano. There are a few good restaurants and quick food spots a short walk away. The accomodation provides a free pickup from the Hakuba train station or the Happo Bus terminal before 7:30pm which was very convenient. All staff were English speakers which made all processes very easy regarding check in and pickups/ drop offs. This accomodation also has a drying room for snow gear as well as male and female onsens and a 'games room' (basement room with a pool table).

The rooms were average, quite clean (minus a lot of dust) and all you need if you just want to ski all day, go out for dinner and then sleep in the hotel room. The shower in our ensuite was a bit of a let down and was a hose attached to the sink's tap with very low pressure. There was not often someone at the reception desk which was slightly frustrating when we needed to ask a quick question.

"Mid range, well catered lodge style accomodation."

9.0

Handy to some of the Happo slopes and gondola. It is up the hill, so beware as the Ubers or taxi were not always able to get there. Short walk down hill to a bus stop that see’s shuttle to nearby ski fields. The friendly staff were always on hand to support you. Breakfasts were exceptional. There is plenty of space in common areas, with essentially four areas to socialise outside your room. Drying room is compact, wifi is free, and shared bathrooms are manageable. The onsite Male or Female onsens are great. Next time, I would plan some dinner delivery’s or microwave meals, to avoid the hectic task of getting dinner bookings with non refundable deposits and the associated travel in a spread out ski town.

Unfortunately the lodge had been plagued with gastro that they could not shake for some weeks. In future I hope they forewarn their guests of this, as it would mean I would consider changing my plans and preparing better to prevent spread to our group. Everyone in our room got sick at different times, which made for an absolute terrible experience travelling out of Hakuba by public bus. The drying room is average with limited space to hang ski clothing.

"Fabulous!"

10.0

Our stay at Asuka Lodge was only for one night, but it was the most pleasant experience we’ve ever had! From the beginning, we were asked if we needed a ride from the Hakuba train or bus station. This was a surprise, as it wasn't stated in the booking information. We were picked up by Yachiyo, who provided fantastic recommendations for the best dining spots in town. She showed us around the lounge and informed us that she provides transfers to shops or onsen spots at specific times—luxury service! 😊 We had breakfast there for one morning; it featured freshly baked croissants with ham and cheese, which were super delicious (menu changes every day). The lodge itself is well-equipped with a dedicated area for snowboarding gear and boots, and it is conveniently located just across the road from the gondola to the slopes. Although we had a room with a private shower and toilet, we still used the on-site onsen to relax after a day on the slopes. The water was super hot, which is exactly what you need after snowboarding. A huge highlight was Yachiyo’s assistance with everything! The entire staff was incredibly friendly, communicative, and always ready to help. If you’re looking for an amazing place to stay with top-notch service and the perfect ski location, Asuka Lodge is the place to be. We can’t wait to return!
