Inn on the Hudson

We booked 2 rooms (40 and 41) for an overnight stay to attend a funeral, so we did not have the chance to use our balcony, stroll the grounds or explore the nearby shops on Main Street, but we saw enough to know that there are lovely views of the Hudson and that the nearby streets are full of interesting shops and restaurants. The young man at the front desk was courteous and friendly, and, since this is a pet-friendly hotel but one of my daughters is allergic to cats/dogs, he went out of his way to ensure her room had not been used by anyone traveling with pets. Our beds were comfortable, and the shower had plenty of hot water with excellent water pressure. As other reviewers have noted, the decor is a bit dated and there are imperfections, like chips on the backs of doors, but I believe the reasonable price of the rooms makes up for that. With one exception, our rooms were very clean. That exception is that there were a few random strands of dark hair in the tub and on one bed. (A friendly suggestion... have the housecleaning staff wear hairnets to avoid this.) The breakfast, included in the price, was satisfactory - a choice of bagels, pastries, cereal, fruit, hard boiled eggs, coffee and tea. We saw a waffle maker too but did not have time to try it out. I would definitely stay here again if I travel back to this part of New York.

This certainly is not the fault of the hotel, but there were trains passing by in the night that blew their horns. Some people might find this a soothing sound, but I am a light sleeper so I kept waking up. If I come back, I will just bring earplugs, problem solved.

Building is very old

The location is lovely, on a rise over the Hudson River, and in walking distance to the town of Peekskill. I recognize that some improvements have been made since our last visit a year ago. Linens and towels are new. It was cleaner. The staff is always cheerful and helpful. We really want to like this hotel.

The noise at night sounded like construction and was ridiculously loud. The beds pull away from the wall when you lean on the pillows. We visited the breakfast bar at 8am and it looked like it had been ravaged by savages. There was uneaten food all over the counters, and the supplies were meager and had not been replenished. We opted out and found a cafe in town for breakfast. Not sure what the noise was about, but the breakfast area can be improved.

Run down and noisy

The location was great. The front desk person was very friendly and welcoming.

It is really a motel; thin walls that you can hear your neighbor talking, dated, scratched, worn furniture, and very small rooms. We had to move the bed over so we would not get the heat blowing in our face.
