The Residence at Vila Porto Mare

Part of a wondeful resort of three hotels, anyone of which should suit anyones taste. If you like flowers and plants this is the place for you, you can sit in the pool or spa surrounded by exotic vegitation. Everything impresses, particularly that all the toilet facilities in the hotel were spotlessly clean all the time. Two weeks in a tee shirt and shorts in December, certainly beats tee shirt, shirt, body warmer and rain coat in England.

Very relaxing trip, pleasantly warm weather although cloudy at lot of the time. Porto Bay Residence was excellent as usual.

We has a fantastic stay at the Porto Mare hotel complex. EVERYTHING was great - food, cleanliness, size of room, service, choice of leisure and entertainment, location, weather - can't fault it!

Spent a wonderfully relaxing week at the Residence with our daughter,son-in-law and 2 grandchildren aged 4&2yrs.Staff were lovely with the children who had a great time in both the outdoor & indoor pools and the play areas.It felt very safe and both the facilities of the resort with the lovely gardens and spacious public areas meant that despite it being half term week it never felt crowded.We also enjoyed the bars and evening entertainment which was available but because of the size of the Resort was easy to escape if you wanted a peaceful evening. The level of the facilities and accommodation was very high and the whole place has an upmarket but informal feel. We will definitely be back.

This was our third visit to the wonderful portobay complex in madeira. The idea of a "complex" confused me prior to our first visit 4 years ago. But dont be confused. If god has made a more beatiful place for a holiday, then he hasnt told anyone.

Beautiful hotel - we were in a studio apartment which was very well kitted out for self catering. The room was a generous size with a Good size balcony and an extremely comfortable bed. The hotel itself was immaculate and the staff were all friendly and provided a first class service. The facilities of the hotel were also first class, each pool was kept spotless throughout our 2 week stay. we used the gym and tennis court on numerous occasions - a leisure pass proving great value for money for us. We also used the spa and dined 4 times at the hotel - the Med restaurant was the best service we had experienced - a complementary glass of bubbly upon arrival was a nice touch and the chateaubriand delicious (both times!) also recommend the weekly BBQ. this hotel was great for relaxing but also had enough options to keep you busy if you were looking for a more lively holiday. Hopefully we'll be back one day.

Yes, just perfect - rooms are huge, beds are pure luxury and it's very peaceful. The staff are superb. There are numerous pools, both indoor & outdoor, and the buffet breakfast was excellent. Honestly, there are no negative comments about The Residence - it's our 2nd visit in less than a year and so glad we returned. Last year we went to The Enotel, a nearby all inclusive hotel and it was dreadful and supposedly a 5*, how The Residence is only a 4* is beyond belief. I would gladly recommend The Residence to all Maderia visitors.

A well-designed, comfortable and friendly hotel about 30 minutes walk from the centre of Funchal

We were in Madeira for 10 days and finished with our last two days at the The Residence. The hotel service was excellent and the staff was very helpful. We had a one bedroom apartment with a beautiful view of the ocean. The food was excellent and the hotel was close to many other great places to eat.

We had a fantastic time here. The room was big and comfortable and the resort was beautifully maintained, with lovely gardens. A great place to relax and unwind. Breakfast was excellent with a lot of variety, catering for a wide range of dietary requirements. The various restaurants offered decent food and a good option if not wanting to venture out in the evening. The staff were all fantastic throughout. I would definitely recommend this place and would happily stay there again.
