"Amazing Staff"

8.0

Hotel Balladins is about a 20-min walk from the train station and a 5-minute walk from a Domino's Pizza place. I stayed there with my mother for a four-day trip to Disneyland Paris. GOOD POINTS: 1) The staff. I've never stayed in a hotel with such helpful reps. In particular we had a receptionist called Cécile, who was training, and she was easily one of the most lovely people I've ever met. She remembered which day of our trip was my birthday and sang to me when I came downstairs, she was always there to wish us good morning, and she was just generally lovely and smiley. She turned what would've been an average stay into a great one. Definitely 10/10 for Balladins staff. 2) The beds. The rooms are fairly small, although for two people ours was a decent size, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. I slept like a log and never wanted to get up in the morning. 3) The food. Breakfast is - I think - extra, but you get a decent variety of food so there's something even for a picky eater like me. I hate cereal, so I had a ham roll every day, and the ham was always the nice stuff rather than the cheap plastic-packaged rubbish, and the bread was fresh-baked when breakfast started. THE IFFY POINTS: 1) The distance from the train station. We read somewhere that it was a 10 minute walk from the station - actually, it took us closer to 20-25 minutes. This isn't too bad in itself, but when you've been on your feet for 12 hours in 30 degree heat for a few days and you've got major blisters and your feet ache, this feels like a very long way and isn't an enjoyable walk. 2) The bathroom. The pattern on our bathroom furniture made it look a bit grubby. We originally thought it was dirt before looking at it a bit closer. It was not dirt, of course, but I still felt like I didn't really want to stand in the shower. THE BAD POINTS: 1) The heat. When we stayed there, the temperature was 30 degrees plus every day, so at night we had to leave the window open else the heat in the room would've been unbearable. Leaving the window open made the room perfectly fine, but Torcy is a fairly noisy town and people go wandering past laughing and shrieking at 3am, which is really loud in the room and quite annoying. 2) The "shut-up-shop-at-10" rule. The hotel closes at 10. This is a bit inconvenient if you've been at Disneyland which doesn't close till 11. You're given a card number to get back into the hotel, but we saw some people whose numbers didn't work and who had to hammer on the door and yell until someone came to let them in. 3) The distance from Orly Airport. We didn't realise Torcy was so far away and so ended up spending most of our food budget on train tickets from Orly to Torcy, leaving us strapped for three of the four days. However this would not cause a problem if you knew in advance that return tickets would cost something like 64 euros. OVERALL Overall, I would recommend Balladins as a no-frills get-what-you-pay-for hotel which is perfect for people who aren't really that bothered about having the 5 stars experience. The staff are amazing, the food is really good and the beds are super-comfy. What more can you need?

"Feels like you are living in a cupboard"

6.0

I stayed here on a school trip with european coach tours. When we arrived there was not many staff. But then when one group of people could not get into there room one night there was no staff at the hotel. There is only one plug which is a big problem when you share a room with three people and there is not enough room. Everyday the cleaners kept tucking the sheets in which drove me round the bend. And the towels one day there was 2 body towels the next day only one. So I left a message for them with trois cil vous plais with an arrow saying what I mean. I got that evening there was only 2 body towels and not three.

"Room"

4.0

Its disadvantage to live here when you want to visit Paris as its not an easy way to get there as the RER goes 40min from the opera and its not too save by to travel late evenings, but they travel every 7-12min... Another thing wrong with this hotel is that there is no hot drinks, no kettle or mugs, plates or even forks and knifes, also when I've asked on reception they wasn't too kind to give me a plate or a mug.. they only offered me a fork and knife but I think they only gave it to me because I was moaning.. The breakfast might be available, but its expensive.. 7€80... Room is small and not too clean but blankets are clean, and also you have clean towels, soap and little shampoo :) The person at reception can speak a little English but not too much.. There is only one plug! haha There is no wardrobe or shelves.. Only one hanger. The lights are really weak. +Working TV +Not too bad internet connection +Mirror on the wall +Nice housekeeper +/- We could smell some pot on corridor, and cigarets.

"Bed on a budget"

6.0

This is a basic, no frills hotel. Room was very small as was the en suite cubicle! However the double bed was very comfy, the TV worked - even though all the channels were in French I think. Breakfast was extra but for 7 euros you got a good serve yourself continental breakfast. Staff on reception were cheerful and helpful. Might have got an extra star but we had a nightmare getting the car to the hotel. The only road with access to the hotel was closed for some sort of market and didn't re-open until about 8.00pm. An advance e mail warning me of that might have been appreciated.

"clean but basic"

8.0

When booking 3 rooms we notified the hotel we were going to be late arriving and also spoke by phone and confirmed this. On arrival at the hotel after a 12hr journey from the UK the hotel was closed with no sign in English to say what to do. so after much banging on doors and phoning round we managed to get a member of staff to come to the door and let us in. The rooms were clean and neat but extremely basic, My room had a bed on the floor with a put me up for my 18 year old daughter but all the other rooms were fine. The toilets were small but adequate but built for very slight people. The breakfasts had a varied choice and hot and cold drinks were available. The staff had limited English and we knew little French. For the price we paid we could not really grumble. There could be better facilities for disabled as we asked for a low ground floor and never got one so trying to get my elderly mother upstairs was hard for her. All in all clean and tidy but dont expect to much.

"Suits the purpose"

6.0

This hotel was good enough for a couple of nights. We went to Disneyland... only three stops away from the hotel. It's about a 15-20minute walk to the RER station. The room was fine, but it needed air conditioning or a fan as it was quite hot. We slept with the window open and it was just bearable. The town or Torcy is quite sweet. It's sleepy, but there is a good pizza place and bakery around the corner from the hotel. Overall, a fine stay.

"Terrible place"

2.0

Really tiny room and can hardly fit into the bathroom. Was said to be family friendly but had no facilities. The room was clean but not comfortable as too cramped. Staff very unhelpful and none too friendly. Hotel too far out of way of restaurants etc in Torcy and rer to Paris and Eurodisney. Moved on after one night even though had intended to stay 3. On return was accused on leaving without paying. Very bad experience at this hotel which was disappointing.
