Vila Gale Tavira Resort Hotel

Just been for 2 weeks with my husband and my child. Great experience with a few hiccups but it wont stop us from returning. The staff couldnt do enough, cleaners/maids lovely and friendly, food lovely, room clean and well kept. Portuguese night (every Monday) was fantastic!

( Miss A ) and I arrived 26/8/2025. I myself had stayed in the hotel in June and again in July and stayed many other times over 20+ years We checked in but the room was not ready appreciate check in time is 3 pm . We went to the spa as advised to collect pool towels where we were told no pool towels were available. I asked how long should we wait the lady was very rude and said maybe later I went back after 1 hr and 10 mins and still no pool towels and the lady said in a very rude manner it’s not been an hour . I returned and explained to reception and they gave us a pool towel each . Not a good start but worse to come . We went to our room 3051 approx 5 pmshowered and changed and Miss A put her case on the floor and took out clothes to wear and her toiletries bag we left our room with the case on the floor at 6.30 as we had a restaurant reservation . Approx 10 pm we returned to our room and Miss A went to her case to get out her nightwear and snacks that were in the case she screamed and said there was a mouse in her case it came out when I took some of the items out and ran around the room . (Video 1 .) I contained the mouse in a plastic glass and Miss A rang reception 2 remembers of staff came . Photos 1/2. We and the 2 staff members emptied the case to find a packet of chocolate eaten but NO mouse droppings in the case ( indicating mouse had not been in the case long ) Also a T shirt has been eaten with a 4 cm hole On 27th no one contacted me from the hotel and I contacted the manager in person at 3 pm The manager she was very rude spoke to me in an aggressive manner and said the mouse must have come with us in the case This is totally impossible The case was packed by Miss A mother The case was not opened till we got to the room after 3 pm . The mouse was not seen at 5.30 when sone clothing items were taken out of the case The case was left open on the floor near the balcony doors which we left open We then left the hotel . There was no mouse in the case . The mouse would have shown up in the airport scanners with a live item if it had traveled with us It is there impossible for the mouse to have come in the suitcase. The mouse has eaten a T Shirt of miss A The manner and the way I have been treated and spoke to on my trip and the aggressive tone has completely spoilt what should have been a special trip for Miss A .

Nice pool area. Pints at bar a bit more expensive than in the city centre although good entertainment at night. Nice big room. Although, I had a room without a view because I didn’t upgrade which meant

Good hotel in a great setting to explore Tavira.Very friendly staff and rooms are a good size with balconies.For the money you possibly can't get much better, as although the decor is old and tired, it is all clean and spacious.We only had lunch by the pool a couple of times so cannot comment on evening meals. Beds are good and shower is ok, along with usual stuff to find in the room.

Firstly the hotel is very clean and looked after, the rooms are adequate to your needs and as like the hotel clean. The bed was soft and both my husband and I slept very well. The room doesn’t have an iron or kettle (we did ask for a kettle, but it just never arrived) but otherwise the room has everything you need. We only used the pool once but loungers were always available even with the early morning towel brigade, you could buy food around the pool and what we saw coming from the kitchens looked nice. The drinks at the hotel we found more expensive than the town 2 small beers at the hotel cost us €7.70 but most places in the town it was anywhere between €34, but generally most hotels charge more for their drinks. We were bed and breakfast, the breakfast is adequate for most appetites, it’s mass catering and everything that goes with that, but it’s run very well and you were seated at a table most mornings very quickly. One thing to note is that your room might not be available to occupy till gone 4, it would seem it’s quite normal for Portugal, this isn’t explained and I think your holiday rep at the airport should keep you in the loop, three times we queued to see if our room was ready and three times we where told no …. You queue, they don’t come to tell you, eventually we got room around 4:15, when you have been travelling since 4am that morning it’s a long time to wait for a room, and as said not once did reception come over to us to apologise or explain, they did have a room you could leave your suitcases which is handy but we also had two rucksacks with us full of electronics and heart medication and heavy duty pain relief, so didn’t fancy walking around town with two heavy rucksacks (we didn’t have locks on the rucksacks so didn’t want to leave them with the cases and I couldn’t afford to lose my medication) One other thing to think about is the wardrobe, in our room the wardrobe had a shelf right across so no long hanging available for your dresses, plus only 10 hangers for two people so a lot of clothes were creased and obviously no iron so not great (luckily we always bring a travel steamer) Overall this hotel is handy for the centre, clean and we would visit again.

Everyone was exceptionally nice.

The hotel was 70s style Spain,bar prices extremely high,g n t and small beer 21.40 euros,bottle of water in buffet 4.40,the hotel is soulless entertainment was abysmal car park 10 euros day,food in buffet was very limited,and not good,would not stay again. The room was very clean and large with nice bathroom,a/c was poor.

We have visited the Algarve numerous times times but our first time in the Eastern area Tavira is a beautiful town to visit . The Festa dos Pescadores was in full swing . Lots of dancing and music during the night a great experience in itself . We stayed in the Vila Gale in central Tavira ideal for all amenities . The hotel itself is spotlessly cleaned and really well maintained . We chose the Bed and breakfast option as we decided to visit local restaurants . The breakfast offer was superb, omelette /egg station , plenty of fresh fruit and breads amongst a whole host of other options . In fact spoiled for choice if you wanted healthier choices. The staff were all very helpful and happy. Particularly Felly and Marcos at the pool with their infectious enthusiasm Rooms great although a little dark . No problems there .., I would thoroughly recommend this Hotel . A wonderful stay and will be back soon

I wasted 4 hours of my afternoon trying to get a room satisfactory for habitat AC problems infestation problems you name it they couldn't get out of their own way I told him that I wanted a refund and the manager would not give it to me they said I had to go through hotels.com for them to give me my refund

We arrived very early for check in at 11:45. But a room was ready and we were checked in early. (Great bonus). Very easy and smooth process. Room on the pool side, nice balcony and table for a pre bed bottle of wine. Room was comfortable, daily cleaning. Wardrobe space and draws are limited. Two single beds pushed together, gap opened up through the night, but we slept well. We did find the beds to be low down. Bathroom with shower over bath a few puddles from the screen not working too well but not a big problem. Hair dryer in the bathroom had limited cord. A refresh of the bathrooms would not go a miss.  A very nice large bar area, typical resort type evening entertainers. Room safe and pool towels at no extra charges, which is very good. Breakfast typical of large catering but tasty and plentiful, very nice freshly cooked omelette. Staff worked well at clearing tables and chefs filling the buffet. The pool has sunshine all day, very nice size, for our stay, no problems with getting a lounger or shade around the pool. There is a childrens pool which was well used. Lunch by the pool slightly more expensive than a sandwich from the shop on your balcony. Hotel location is in a great for a 10min walk to the riverside, that then opens you up to pretty much straight easy access to all parts of town. Easy for the beach ferry. Or go up to the old bridge and explore. There are lots of nice restaurants to choose from. We did not have a vad meal at any of our choices for dinner. Pastry shops and cafes throughout. Our favourite drop in cafe is Pastelaria Tavirense.
