Mauna Lani, Auberge Collection

Upon arrival, I was greeted with a beautiful lei — I was absolutely thrilled! It’s such a unique and special touch that truly captures the spirit of Hawaii. At the front desk, Ole checked me in and offered me a cold drink and refreshing towel, which I greatly appreciated. It was a wonderful welcome and set the tone for the rest of my stay. This is truly a first-class resort.

Wonderful resort! Facility was top notch, friendly staff. Loved the welcome we received at arrival. Pools and beach were fantastic, with many free options such as snorkel gear and paddle boards to use that our kids really enjoyed. Great running trails nearby. Restaurants were great.

My wife and I had a great stay at the Mauna Lani. The resort is large and has something for everyone. Some have posted that families with small kids can be a distraction, but we didn't find that to be a problem. If this was peak summer or holiday travel I can see that this might be an issue (crowds in general), but otherwise there is an adult pool, family pool, and beach to keep everyone happy. Staff was uniformly very friendly. We stayed on the 6th floor (room 661, deluxe ocean suite) with a south-facing view, which was great. It is also nice to be in close proximity to a small grocery store and other shops/restaurants, which the hotel can shuttle you to. Overall an excellent stay. The rooms, food, beverages are indeed expensive, but if you can afford it I would highly recommend!

For our 40th anniversary we booked the Fairmont Orchid, having stayed there last year. Because of a corporate function they moved us to the Auberge. We checked in, turned the air conditioning down, and went out for a little bit. When we return 45 minutes later the temperature hadn't budged. We called services, the engineer arrived, said the temperature was blowing at 61°, the thermostat stated the temperature was 75°. I am pretty certain it shouldn't work that way. He also stated it was an old hotel and that was to be expected. I told him we just came from the Royal Hawaiian, in Waikiki , which is 98 years old, and in our suite the air conditioning reached its set temperature within 5 minutes. Ultimately, Roland, the assistant manager, moved us to another room with an inferior view from what we had. The air conditioner has moved two degrees in about 30 minutes. Definitely an improvement over the last one but still way too slow. The true issue is, that on the 6th floor, where we were, the A/C unit is in the bathroom ceiling, the sun beats on the roof above and the A/C cannot keep up. This hotel has, in 2019, been renovated and problems such as this should not occur in what is supposed to be a five-star Resort. What a tremendous disappointment that something as simple as air conditioning is so difficult here, at a renovated property. Don't get me wrong, the grounds are lovely the rooms beautiful. Other issues: The A/C vent over the toilet is clogged with huge wads of dust. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the A/C worked so poorly. At all meals we were served with a tablespoon, never a teaspoon. The spoons are too large for the coffee cups. At breakfast we used the tablespoon to stir our coffee. We had to use the same spoon for our Açai bowls. Seems like a supposed 5 star resort would bring a fresh spoon. At breakfast one morning, October 21st, we asked for our waitress, the busman brought the check instead. I advised we did not ask for the check. After 5 minutes, the waitress finally showed up. They were NOT busy. We had higher expectations for this place and they were dashed. We rented two clamshells on different days. First day was fine. Towels and water were brought as expected. The second rental day, as we approached there were FIVE employees stand around chatting. We were greeted by ALL. We checked in. The young lady, with dark hair, stated she'd bring towels. She NEVER did. Over an hour later we got them ourselves. We'd seen the same attendant two days earlier, we never saw her do anything other than stand around chatting with coworkers. Today was a repeat of her endless chatting. What could someone so young possibly have to say that she failed to serve guests? When we paid I told that we usually tip 20-30% but she was receiving 5%. I explained why. Her failure to bring towels, water, or anything other than stand around chatting with the boys. True to form she said "I never saw you people". She made my point for me. She was inattentive, rude and clueless. Later I received a text from Sebastian, your team member. He asked if I wished to discuss. I declined as I was simply fed up with the Auberge. There were also many kind and efficient st as of members. We found your service is not intuitive as it should be or as good as expected for a 5 star resort. We would not choose an Auberge resorts for any future trips. These issues should not occur here. Service should be intuitive and immediate. It is neither.

A love letter to the Mauna Lani: We visited in Oct with our family (2 kids, 5yo and 8yo). From the minute we arrived, we were treated with such kindness and warmth. We did it all while we were there - sunrise canoe, canoe snorkeling, holoholo kids crew, spa, gym, every restaurant and room service - and give rave reviews about it all. Yes, it’s pricey - but it’s worth it for the quality of food, service and incredible grounds. They also do an incredible job with pre-arrival planning. They replied to every email within hours, if not minutes. All of our plans were seamless. A special shout out to the crew at the surf shack (Josiah and Ben) who did an awesome job during our excursions - especially the sunrise paddle with our kids. Another special shout out to Monica who ran the kids crew. Our girls had the best time and walked away with a depth of knowledge about the ocean and Hawaiian culture beyond our expectations. And we were able to enjoy some kid free time without worrying if our kiddos were enjoying their time in Hawaii. This was a special anniversary trip but we’ve already decided we will be returning sooner than later. A hui hou, Mauna Lani!

The most wonderful trip ever. The hotel was amazing, very open air and modern Hawai vibe. Couches and relaxing chairs in several places, easy to find a place to hang out. Our oceanfront room was divine, with service twice a day, fresh water, towels coffee etc. We did a sunrise canoe trip and the leader led us in a very moving morning Hawaiian mediation. Highly recommend. Also the snorkeling and equipment from the hotel are great, we used it everyday. The water was perfect and great beach service. Also used their free bikes and yoga class. And we ate at one of the restaurants (HaLani),several times and food was very good. But the best part of our trip was the exceptional people that work at the hotel. We need to deeply thank OLe and Edwin at the front desk, Austin the sales manager, Kat another manger, Mel parking cars. and everyone at the snorkel shop, Jessica and the funny guy who served us dinner gave us lots of local advice of where to go. We will be back..........

Highly recommend the Mauna Lani Auberge. You feel relaxed and welcomed the minute you enter the lobby. This is a high end hotel and they certainly exceeded my expectations for a hotel of this caliper. All the employees have a positive and outgoing attitude - you will love staying here. Beach is fantastic and the snorkeling options were amazing. We are foodies and the restaurants were all excellent - great selection - not just Hawaiian food! Canoe House for my birthday was superb!

Truly incredible experience! The property is well maintained, staff always go above & beyond and the location of the property is perfect. If there is one thing I can recommend to everyone it is the sunrise canoe experience!

Beautiful beachfront property with wonderful ponds and walking trails. Very good beachfront lounger and service. Very friendly and helpful staff all around. Wonderful room, big and comfortable. Nice restaurants, good food, though pricey.

Just a heavenly experience and always one of our favorite resorts to come and relax. The staff is absolutely amazing and every experience from the sunrise canoe to renting their boat is a one-of-a-kind experience that delivers. The restaurants were amazing (very pricey) but the food delivered. Overall, it was as great of a vacation as it possibly could have been and we can’t wait to come back for a 5th visit.
