Hilton Garden Inn Des Moines/Urbandale

Easy check-in/out. Rooms clean, good location, easy parking.

Very pleased

I've been doing a cross country road trip once a year for the last three years and this is the nicest convenient hotel (right off a freeway) I've stayed in. It seemed very new, though I was told it's 20 years old. It had a recent update, though, and everything felt fresh. The room was very large, had plank flooring (so appreciated), and was incredibly stylish for a place that falls in the budget hotel spectrum. The lights (I counted four different kinds of lamps) were especially attractive. You might say "who cares?" but it makes a difference to me. I like pretty things. Also liked the room-length counter along one wall---plenty of room for all our stuff (and there's a lot thanks to traveling with a dog and having to eat in room). The bathroom is also roomy, with plenty of counter space and the bed was the most comfortable of my trip (four different hotels). There are several dining options within walking distance and a nice long, safe sidewalk on the street so you can take your dog (or yourself) for a real walk. The dog fee is $50 which is pretty average these days. Breakfast is not included, but I find the offerings of most hotels pretty unappealing and unhealthy anyway, so didn't care. There was free coffee and tea though. I'm hoping this is typical of Hilton Garden Inns, as I will definitely try them again.

The property and room were nice and clean. Our mattress was terribly firm, which led to a very poor night of sleep. And the pool was closed for renovation but there was no indication of that when we booked our room; we were very disappointed upon arrival.

Nice area with restaurants. Free parking. Right off I 80/35. They have a nice little necessity shop with drinks and snacks, even sandwiches, for the hungry traveler. Rooms were cozy and remodeled.

We had a short great stay.

Comfortable

I have stayed at Hilton garden inns before with no complaints. Bed was not comfortable and hot tub was permanently closed and fitness center was closed. I specifically booked a hotel wanting a hot tub and would have liked to work out. Feel like that should be noted in the hotel details. Feel a little ripped off.
