Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott Marion

I have to apologize to the front clerk who checked us in. She was fantastic along with Greg and I can’t find her name. Upon check in we hit it off with them like we were old friends. They recommended the 17th Street Grill next door, which the wife said are the best ribs she’s had. The room was clean. Coffee was fresh and during breakfast random conversations with other guests. Will definitely stop when passing through.

I really enjoyed this hotel. The room was a little small but I found it to be cozy. It was clean and I had everything that I needed for my short stay.

Mediocre place to stay. Location is good if traveling 57. Older hotel that needs updated. Water in sink wouldn’t drain properly. Front desk clerk was direct and to the point, but not personable or helpful. I would stay here again, if the price was right. .

The receptionist was awesome. The facility was very clean.

I was informed after check in the pool and hot tub were out of order. At breakfast, which was slightly warm, I overheard the employee in the dining area say, "I am not going to put additional food out". This was at 730. Very poor attitude.

I paid 156 dollars for the king room with sofa and I got the 116 dollar room with no sofa I would like to know why ??

Driving from Chicago, thank goodness we stopped here! I was horrible out, really tough driving. Greeted by a great desk person, the room was clean and warm. Bed comfy, shower great. Breakfast lady was awesome. So helpful, she walked me to the treadmill, then made sure our breakfast was good. Give her a raise!

We arrived at approximately 5:30pm after a 7 hour drive and noticed a nearly empty parking lot. Ok. Saturday, Marion IL, I get it. So we go inside and check in expecting a no-brainer upgrade to a “suite” (Gold Elite, nothing special) since that happens without prompting at most Marriott properties. And since this is a Fairfield Inn and Suites we asssumed the best, right? I’ll caveat all of this with the fact that I do not normally ask or demand upgrades. If offered, cool…if not, whatever. So we forgot about it. We get to our 2nd floor room to find a normal Fairfield room…no frills, but definitely aged, like this is one of the original Fairfield’s, maybe. Mold in the tub, peeling wallpaper, shabby looking carpet. Days Inn style, you know? Run down, but cheap so can’t really complain. Until we found a dorito between the bed and the nightstand. Gross. And then my wife shows me the washcloths and how “not white” they were. In other words, they were pee yellow and gross looking. Soooo, my wife decides to go downstairs and look for sweets to knock the stink off this room. And, since we had just purchased a pint of Marions finest bourbon (Wild Turkey) we needed a couple of straws to help down the sauce. The front desk clerk, whose name she failed to note, but he was working the desk on the evening of 1/21/23, told her sorry she’d have to go to McDonalds for that, hehe (and yes he chuckled as if to say, enjoy the walk). I guess it was just too much work to tell her where the coffee straws were? She did find the “nerve” to ask if she could get some hand soap since there was none in our room, just shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The answer was…”wow, it’s usually the body wash that’s missing haha” never offering the hand soap. She decided, probably correctly, that complaining about the dorito, moldy tub, and yellow linens was probably not a wise conversation with this gentleman (lol), Definitely a check in and relax experience to FORGET!!!! What a d-b@g eh? Anyway, on a positive note, they had biscuits and gravy for breakfast the next morning so I kind of forgot all the nonsense from the night before. The breakfast area was neat and clean. The young lady handling the breakfast area was friendly and polite. The person at the front desk in the morning was polite if not attentive. She seemed pre-occupied with her phone. The cherry on top of the rude sundae was the $7 fee for parking in a freely accessible and nearly empty parking lot. Greedy for a few extra buck much? Relax, you’re in Marion, not Chicago. No reason to gouge people for parking in your open and nowhere near full parking area. In other words, go to the Hilton down the street. Probably cleaner and more concerned about doing a good job for their loyal customers.

This hotel falls in line with what I expect from Fairfield. Clean, comfortable beds, very courteous staff, and the breakfast was good.

Staff was very friendly and the room was just what we expected. Breakfast was the standard we get at this level of hotels.
