"Full of character"

8.0

So much character in this hotel. Excellent location. Very friendly and helpful staff.

We were lucky to have been given room 11 which was very peaceful at night. My daughter and friend had rooms at the front and they said they were very noisy due to the nightlife on the highstreet on a Saturday night.

"Great location but that’s literally it."

3.0

Central location. Only met one staff member but they were friendly.

The property is old as expected, but the rooms are incredibly dated and not nice to stay in. Musky smell and carpets didn’t feel clean. Bed wasn’t particularly comfortable, and the pillows and duvet were embarrassingly thin. Headboard on bed was so old it felt like if you tapped it dust would come flying out. Radiator in room didn’t work, and it wasn’t particularly warm (luckily it was a mild night!). Window was drafty (as expected with listed buildings) and curtains were dirty and not very thick. When going to plug a phone charger in we noticed a used ear plug and packet by the side of the bed - both of which would’ve been seen if hoovering/cleaning the room properly. Bathroom was clean, bur the hot water took at least 10 mins to come through in the sink and shower and even then it was lukewarm at best. Worst part of our stay was the noise from the street. We were facing a nightclub opposite and noise was very loud until at least 3am. Windows did not shut tight either so we could hear everything below. Have stayed in similar properties close to busy streets but always been given a warning when booking about this, but there was nothing anywhere about this being a possibility. We came back to the room late after drinks but do not expect a good sleep here especially if you’re facing the street. Each time we left the hotel, there was people sat on the bottom of the stairs vaping or drinking which was quite intimidating to walk pass. Yes it was cheap but I’ve stayed in cheaper places that have been better and felt much cleaner. The location is great but not worth it. Will not be returning.

"SUMMER DUVET, NO SPARE DUVETS AND NO INADEQUATE HEATING ON THE COLDEST NIGHTS - 05/01/2026"

4.0

The place was clean

I checked in on 05/01/2026 and the night was one of the coldest so far this winter. On the bed was a summer duvet. The radiators were set on low and the temperature control knobs were removed. I was so tired after a very difficult shift and retired to bed early. I was woken up at 0200rs because of the cold in the room. I was freezing. I picked the room phone to call reception. It wasn't working. It had no dialling tone but this horrible ear piercing noise. I had no choice but to walk down stairs to reception. There was no one at the front desk. After a few minutes a certain man appeared. I asked for an additional duvet and I was told they didn't have any spare ones and I was offered a thin duvet cover instead. I declined it. The man then brought me two portable heaters to my room. The room was only warm enough after 0500hrs which was just over an hour time for me to leave for work. As I was leaving I spoke to a woman at reception in the presence of a man I presume was the one I had met during the night. I tried to discuss my problem with her. I also reminded her that the previous night was very cold and made it impossible for me to sleep properly. Her response was so rude, and I quote, "To be fair, we don't control the weather". What an answer!!!! Proper adding salt to injury. I never expected such a response considering that it is the hotel's responsibility to have comfortablerooms. The weather had nothing to do with my suffering during the night. It was their failure to look after me, their guest. I WILL NEVER BOOK WITH THEM AGAIN and NEVER EVER WILL I EVER RECOMMEND ANYONE ELSE TO BOOK WITH THEM.
