Hotel Oceania Saint Malo

Excellent hotel and location. Very comfy and clean rooms and friendly staff. Definitely visit again.

This city and the view of our balcony were amazing! Do not fear if you cannot speak French, everyone knows Anit of English!

We had a lovely weekend away in St Malo exploring the old town and walking around on the wall.

Great stay. I didn't get a sea view bedroom but the bar and restaurant area do have fantastic views over the bay. Breakfast at the weekend was a bit over-crowded in the restaurant. The hotel feels like it's recently been refurbished, both in the rooms and the public spaces. My room looked out to the rear of the hotel, direct onto a road and a quayside area. No problem there - there was virtually no traffic noise due to the double or triple-glazed windows - but the outer walls are floor-to-ceiling glass with no net curtains. If you want privacy you have to shut the curtains, which blacks the room out entirely. Frosting of the glass to about 1.2 metres would be a great idea. The closeness to the sands of the bay is a key attraction but the hotel is only 3-4 minutes' walk from the old city. There are a mass of cafes, brasseries and creperies. I recommend strolling around the town and not just sticking to the restaurants in the main tourist area. A walk around the city ramparts is a great way to orient yourself to the town.

The Oceania is a clean, bright and modern hotel located next to the beach and a short walk from the walled city. Staff was attentive and friendly. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed with spa bath and separate shower. Nice large floor to ceiling windows looked out on the beach.

The staff set this hotel apart. Unlike the considerably plusher and slightly more expensive Nouveau Monde up the road, the staff here give you the warmest possible welcome and make up for the perfectly adequate but rather spartan rooms.

Excellent base for visiting Saint Malo.

The Oceania is just outside the old, walled city. You can take the bus to the old town from the station, if you arrive by rail, and it will deposit you about a hundred yards from this hotel. My sense was that all the rooms have at least a partial view of the sea. The staff were all helpful and friendly. The room was reasonably quiet; it had a tea/coffee maker but no mini-bar. The breakfast rate, as in most of the French hotels I visited, seemed a little steep, but you can get a coffee and croissant in the cafes of the old town for about a third of the price...
