"Good"

4.0

A 'cheap and cheeful' option in a seaside holiday town; BUT the entire room had a terrible smell of sewage/ backed up toilet (there were no issues with the toilet or its cleanliness). I opened all the windows to air the room - on a quite cold day, so the room got quite cold - but when the windows were closed again, the smell returned full force.

"Excellent stopover"

10.0

I'm really surprised by many of the bad reviews I've read as our experience was the complete opposite. Yes the rooms are a little small and basic but they are clean and the beds we had were comfortable. If you've stayed in a Travel Lodge or Premier Inn then this would compare so do come with a realistic expectation that this is a two star hotel and you get what you pay for. The best thing about the hotel for us though was the staff. Friendly, patient, polite and extremely helpful so I'm not sure who those who have written bad reviews met! They simply couldn't do enough to help us and if we needed something we just asked and they delivered. The man on Reception (the manager I think) was completely lovely and even helped me when my car broke down. Good continental breakfast although if you prefer there is a Boulanger just down the road. We would stay here again and there were five of us fitted into one room!

"Not set up for early departures"

4.0

I booked this hotel in order to be nearby for an 8.30 am ferry departure. The hotel is very close to Ouiistreham but has no facilities for anyone who wants to make an early (-ish) start. Breakfast wasn't served before 8.00am so obviously in my case too late. I was able to park my car in front of the hotel for free, but my room was at the top of the hotel, and dragging a bag up a windy staircase to do the same thing a few hours later, and then negociate getting said luggage out via a side gate and putting the key back in the box made departure annoyingly fiddly. If I'd accidentally let the gate slam, i would have found myself locked out. The room was small, smelled fusty and was at the front of the hotel on the road and as cars went past all night, not a great night's sleep. I certainly won't use this hotel again.

"personal service"

8.0

This is a well located hotel ideally situated for touring the Normandy beaches and only a short distance from the port of Ouistreham. It has a family-run atmosphere and the staff were all extremely helpful and welcoming. The food (for a group party) was varied and enjoyable. The rooms were all clean and reasonably well appointed. Hermanville is a very quiet, mostly residential town. No complaints!

"Good basic hotel"

6.0

If you scroll down and read the review by a Belgian who took his wife for a romantic weekend to this hotel and then proceeded to slag it off you should be aware that it says more about him than the hotel. If you pay 45 euros for a room you are not going to get The Ritz. The hotel is convenient for the ferry, is clean and tidy and comfortable and competitively priced. Breakfast costs 7.50 euros and for this you get unlimited tea and coffee, croissant, bread, jam, compote, yoghurt etc ( Typical french breakfast) so no real complaints there either. Yes I would use it again.Owner lent us an umbrella as it decided to pour down just as we were going for dinner. That is above the norm for this level of hotel.

"Complete disaster!"

2.0

One good advice, stay away from this hotel! Impolite "manager", old smelly hotel with horrible rooms and a "non-existing" breakfast! We booked for 2 nights with a "Bongo-Bon" but really ran away after one night. Even though there was almost nobody in the hotel, the owner refused to give us another room when I told him that our room didn't resemble at all to any of the pictures on the website. "You got what you paid for" he said, if you pay extra you can get another room... I was hoping for a romantic week-end with my wife, but this turned out to be an absolute nightmare. Very small room, old and obsolete. We were doubting IF we would even spend the night there, but in the end decided to make the best of it. Another major disillusion in the morning, breakfast... One croissant, a small piece of bread, no meat, no cheese, no eggs, bad coffee, completely in line with the rest. We decided to skip the second night and drove back home, totally disillusioned, what a disaster! Please report this guy and let somebody close this "hotel"....

"Very handy for the ferry"

6.0

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful . The rooms are fairly dated but clean and with wifi. You have to drive to eat -all restaurants are at the ferry terminal about 10 but all in all ok for €45 for a double. When travelling in Europe I always take a travel kettle because hotel as rarely provide kettle and tea/coffee.

"warm reception and just by the beach"

10.0

if you are interested in the landing beaches, Le Canada could not be better. Named in honour of the Allies, this is a minutes walk away from important WW2landmarks.... sunk ships are not far out there... there are ceremonial trips by the local Lifeboat to honour the lost sailors, and inland there is the beautiful Hermanville War Cemetery, a haven of peace, to ensure that those lives are not forgotten. The memorial on the beach marks D-Days first coastal landing, before midnight on the 5th June, and in fact Hermanville sur Mer was the first liberated coastal village.
