"Close to the Normandy Landing Beaches"

8.0

This hotel was just what I required for my visit to the D-Day Landing Beaches. A very good price for my 3 day stay. Good size room, very clean and well equipped. The staff were exceptionally pleasant. No complaints at all. I would stay here again, no problems. Location was 50 m from the Sword landing beach. This was why I was in Normandy.

"Charged us even though we didn't stay!"

2.0

After Brittany ferries delayed us by a night with industrial action, the tourist board within the ferry terminal booked us into this (sorry, can't call it an hotel, it was less than a hostel) We were in a camper van but the ferry was compensating us for the delay by paying for a hotel, so we asked that there was room near the hotel to park as we have two small dogs with us. He assured us there was, then said we could take them in with us. After locating our keys in a box outside the door, (there is no-one actually at the hotel to greet you!) we took our bags up then went straight out, as we hadn't eaten, because we had expected to eat on the ferry and discovered this place didn't serve food, not even a kettle in the room! So we headed back to Ouistreham to see if anywhere was still open. Unfortunately, because the ferry we were catching was the night one, it was 11pm by then and not place was still open by then. We decided to cancel our stay in Le Canada so I tried to phone on the way back to it to collect our bags but there was no answer (even though they say the phone is on 24 hours a day) I couldn't leave a message as it just kept on ringing, so I emailed straight away to let him know we weren't staying. We went to a lovely hotel in Caen , where nothing was a problem Novotel. The next morning I received an email with a receipt for €70 from the owner/manager? (Who we never met) saying he had taken the money from my card and that was that! I checked the receipt, and as well as charging for the room, he had charged for two breakfasts AND our two dogs, who never got out of the camper van! I emailed him back to explain the situation properly but received no reply. I emailed again, not so politely this time to point out about the charges for the dogs and breakfasts but no reply! So now, I just want to warn anyone who may think of staying here. ...DON'T! The room was fairly clean, but cramped and just not nice,, I wouldn't have felt safe there, especially with outdoor keys left in a box for anyone to pick up and use to get in. It was just the attitude of the person we dealt with. I'm site it must be illegal to charge for breakfasts and dogs even the room in this circumstance. We wouldn't have minded paying a nominal administration charge, but it wasn't as if anyone else would have rented the room, as we didn't book it until almost 10pm

"Toilet in the bedroom."

2.0

A truly awful experience which I greatly regret. The walls are paper thin, and I could hear conversations from several of the adjacent rooms. The conversion to "en-suite" results in having a toilet in the same room as your bed with only a cheap curtain as a divider. Something I would only expect in a prison cell. The 'en-suite' shower was filthy and covered in limescale with a smell of raw sewage emanating from it. I think the shower drain was plumbed directly into the sewage pipe. Disgusting and completely un-acceptable. The 'concierge' when I complained just shrugged. Cheap and nasty. Avoid at all costs.

"Good Hotel for the price"

8.0

This is definitely not a 5-star hotel, but if you just need a place to sleep while touring Normandy, its fine. It was clean enough and the location is great. If you want a resort, not the hotel for you. If you want a clean place with a bed, this one is just fine.

The hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My french isnt the best so it was helpful that the staff spoke english and it made it a lot easier for us to get directions to the many local tourist attractions. I had the best nights sleep ive had for years the pillows and matress were fantastic the breakfast was a continental buffet and we really enjoyed it the food was excellent. We would definatly stay here again.
