Spruce Lodge Bed & Breakfast & Guest Cottage

I like Spruce Lodge, the owner and staff, have stayed there before and will stay there again. Pet peeves however are the late breakfast start (8am) and lack of bedside lighting in both of the last two rooms I stayed in.

The Spruce Lodge is a great value. Very comfortable, nice 1800's house with a lot of history. Carol is a great host with wonderful stories. Just a short walk to two nice restaurants with local brews.

Everything was cozy and comfy. Proximity to all amenities was also a plus.

Not what I expected from a bed and breakfast. Room was small with a separate bathroom. Not used to no tv in the room and sharing with the rest of the patrons in a common room. The homemade bread was good for breakfast but the rest was a typical continental breakfast. Been to other B&B's and this does not compare.

Close enough to walk to downtown. Continental breakfast was quite adequate. Hostess was helpful with dinner recommendation and info on local attractions.

There seemed to be more going on in Lake Placid than other areas close by at this time of year. The businesses did not close their doors too early and I felt safe walking around alone, even after dark. The people in the shops and restaurants were friendly and not pushy. There was even a place that I felt safe hiking alone, Henry's Woods, that I really enjoyed. I live in a larger city that is not known for its safety and it was nice to feel comfortable in Lake Placid. What amazed me also is that the area was so trash-free and the lake was so clear and clean. People either take a lot of pride in where they live or there are very capable cleaning crews!

This is a beautiful property - we received a very warm welcome and enjoyed our stay, would definitely recommend this accommodation.

I was met at the front porch with a big smile and a warm welcome. I was shown to my room and introduced to the cat, Joplin.....a real sweet kitty. The living room was rustic, not plush, but still comfortable. The dining room accommodated too few.

Spruce Lodge is a friendly BnB close to downtown Lake Placid. Breakfast is served in the main house kitchen with homemade bread and a chance to meet your fellow guests. The owner gave us information on the local area. The room was comfortable and the front porch had great chairs for a sit in the sun.
