"Good and Not So Good"

6.0

I booked two rooms-one for us and one for another for a couple traveling with us. Our room was fine. The other room had a pungent odor and one of their windows didn't open--so they had to prop it open with a coat hangar. The booking noted that "We include $14 in dining credit each evening." But when we arrived , the hotel advised us that they had discontinued the credit, so we were out $28 or $56 (depending on whether the credit was per person or per room).

"Charming Mendocino inn"

6.0

At check-in we were surprised to find that our room was in another facility several blocks from the main hotel. We drove there and found our room, but there was no obvious staff there to welcome us or make us feel secure. Use of the hot tub was out of the question for us as we'd have had to drive back to the main hotel for that. Room and bed were comfortable. The included breakfast was very good, but we were unpleasantly surprised that we were charged for the juice that was offered. The person at the first floor desk was quite short with me when I asked if I could leave our room key with her rather than going upstairs to give it to the hotel clerk. We did make a reservation for dinner at the restaurant and had one of the best meals we've ever eaten!

good view from deck. Restaurant much better than most hotel food, service good. Housekeeping in room adequate but not 1st class. Breakfast included in rates. Would stay there again.

"Gorgeous inn with wonderful restaurant"

8.0

I've been to Menodocino before and was enchanted by the rugged coast, cool temperatures during summer, outdoor activities, lovely shops and delicious food. I had been to MacCallum House Inn for their restaurant on my previous visit and decided to stay there for my next visit. I was very pleased with the price- especially as it includes delicious & generous breakfasts. I had the MacCallum Benedict one morning, and the granola parfait the next. Both were wonderful. I had dinner one evening in the restaurant. I'm fairly sure the food was good, but the woman sitting next to me had so much perfume on that I could barely taste anything! Misery! I took my wine (which you get a discount on a drink or bottle of wine each night included in your stay)...anyway, took my wine to my lovely room and just relaxed on my giant bed. The charm of the hotel extends to the tiniest details of the 1880's building's rooms. Little nooks in the bathroom for toiletries, a writing desk which I made good use of and much more. My view overlooked the stunning garden. I've been there before when they host a Shakespeare play free to the public on the lawn. If you're there at the same time as their play series, definitely check it out! The theater company was terrific. Mendocino is a quiet town, with a good arts culture. MacCallum House is in the heart of the town. Yet it's still quiet and peaceful. And you can walk out to the bluffs, the beach, the shops & restaurants and such. The only drawbacks to my room was that it was right across from reception and that I didn't have a tub. The noise wasn't too bad, but in the morning, I heard snippets of conversation. I would have enjoyed more privacy, but for the great rate that I got, I'm very happy with my stay. Not a complaint really. It's more of a heads up for you to check and see what room you're booking as they seem to all be fairly unique since it's not a standard hotel.

"Nice getaway on the coast"

6.0

Our spacious room could definitely have used more colorful decor and usable furniture. It felt empty and cold in spite of the fact that it was roomy and bright. Deck was nice to have and the fireplace was cozy. We never used the jacuzzi tub. Restaurant was excellent although pricey for dinner.
