Casa Colonial Beach & Spa

My husband and I wanted a quick getaway from the kids, so I explored where JetBlue flew direct- up came Puerto Plata. We've been to DR many times, and even got married in Punta Cana. But coming to Puerto Plata felt like a whole new island! Casa Colonial looked like a perfect option, quiet and upscale. And guess what? The place actually looks like the pictures, even better in my opinion. The staff were all wonderful, and since the hotel only had a few rooms occupied, they spent plenty of time being attentive to every need. I would highly recommend this hotel for a calm, serene couples getaway, but kids are allowed (we didn't see any). We also both had massages which were amazing, and quite a nice spa for such a small hotel. Overall, we are huge fans of this hotel and hope to be back again soon!!

Might need a bit more diversity in the menu but we stayed 2 weeks. However several locations are available in the vicinity.

Such a fantastic value for a high-service boutique resort. Quick and direct flight, and only about 20 mins from airport. Rooms and decor reminded me of some high-end chains we've stayed out - Perfect for a weekend getaway for my wife and I to get some sun and beach exposure.

We just returned from a stay at the Colonial Casa Hotel in the Dominican Republic, and I can confidently say the earlier online reviews did not match our experience - in the best way. This private luxury boutique felt like an oasis. The grounds were lush with palms, orchids, and blooming flowers at every turn. With what seemed to be only a handful of rooms occupied during our stay, the service was truly next-level. We had morning and evening maid service, and the staff brought ice and anything else we needed almost instantly. Breakfast, included with Diamond-level Hilton status, was far more than continental, tropical fruit, fresh juices, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, or optional pancakes that were just as delicious. We even enjoyed the occasional bold dove that tried to sneak a bite of our bread basket. The beach was breezy, but the moment you sat down, an attendant greeted you with a towel, food, drinks - whatever you needed. At night, the beach was secured and limited to guests only, which added a sense of privacy and calm. Safety-wise, the hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport and protected behind three gated entrances. We felt fairly comfortable walking to nearby restaurants, by road or by beach dinner at a local Italian spot with wine came to just $75 for two, and we had spicy (and excellent) wings at another casual place near the golf course. Most days, the generous breakfast held us over until we split a lunch by the pool. Speaking of the pool. It was the best part. The photos online don’t do it justice. With only a few guests at a time, we always found space on one of four private sets of loungers, each with its own hot tub, facing the ocean with the pool behind. We ate at the hotel’s restaurant twice for dinner and had great meals. Nothing tasted frozen as stated in earlier reviews, and my husband had the goat dish twice. Service, again, was flawless. We were upgrade to an ocean view room and enjoyed sitting on the balcony and the clean, spacious, and well decorated room. Wifi was perfectly fine everywhere. We did have one day of rain, but it cleared up by lunchtime and didn’t slow us down. The water wasn’t the crystal-clear turquoise you see in postcards, as the beach is tucked into a bay, but it was still beautiful and very much swimmable. We didn’t notice any of the water issues mentioned in other reviews. Yes, there’s construction and some half-finished buildings in the surrounding area, but it had zero impact on our stay. No noise, no disruption, just a beautiful escape. Concierge was helpful and kind, like everyone else on staff. All in all, we enjoyed every minute and almost hate to share this review because we’d love to keep this place to ourselves, but it deserves to be enjoyed by more folks.

My fav hotel in the north of Dominican Republic- one of the best in the country, just perfect!

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous! The orchid garden is peaceful and sublime. The absolute best thing about the hotel is the staff. Everyone from check in, Jose and Claudia, to check out was fantastic. Housekeeping was excellent with superb attention to detail, the wait staff were patient and knowledgeable and the beach staff was accommodating and friendly. The night security guard even got cushions for us so we could stargaze in comfort! It was a wonderful visit for me and my elderly parents. Thank you! We will be back!!
