Sunshine Mountain Lodge

The hotel is set in a beautiful location, and after a few days in the wilderness, a shower felt nice. The staff did put in a good effort, and were pleasant to work with.

Unfortunately, the hotel missed the mark on quite a bit. I don't feel like the hotel was super upfront about the 25 minute gondola ride up to the facilities. Additionally, the second bed in a 2 bed room wasn't advertised as a murphy bed, which wasn't made upon arrival. Due to the gondola ride, it is a commitment to be up at the hotel, which would be fine if they served good food, which I mistakenly assumed would be the case given the price of the hotel. The food and dining experience was meh at best. We ordered glasses of red wine with dinner, and the server approaches with glasses of white wine. I told her that wasn't what we ordered, and she later returned to tell us they were out of what we ordered. So we ordered a bottle of red wine. Another server approached and told us the wine cellar hadn't been properly attended to so the wine was cold. He asked if we would like a bottle closer to room temperature. We responded affirmatively and he came back with (presumably) the same bottle of wine soaking wet, so we had to assume he soaked it in hot water. By the time we were finally served the red wine, we were already done with our appetizer, and partially through our main course. While we appreciate the effort, it didn't match the fine dining experience advertised by the hotel, especially given the limited options once you are up the gondola. The breakfast was also underwhelming, and the table next to us returned their entire order, so we weren't alone in finding the dining lacking. Our room was super hot and stuffy upon arrival. The front desk offered us another fan. Unfortunately, the only way to get the room comfortable was to open the door, and then a bunch of bugs flew in the room. There were designated smoking areas that weren't enforced, so cigarette smoke was blowing directly into our room. Additionally, our bags were not delivered to us in the promised window.

Beautiful location at the top of a gondola run. You will park at the base of the mountain and then use a gondola (included in your stay) to get to the hotel.

We stayed here on our honeymoon and it was a perfect, cozy getaway. It was nice to be able to get away from the crowds and there were some beautiful hikes right outside the hotel which was a highlight of our trip. The gondola felt adventurous and easily accessible and the staff was also very friendly! We would stay here again.

The plus of the gondola was the feeling like you were closer to nature during the stay so it was perfect for the first few nights of our honeymoon. The downside was that it was more of a commitment to stay at the hotel once you were up there. However the shuttle after 6 was also very accessible so it wasn't a huge deal.

The gondola and chair lift experiences, and huge hot tub were unique and added a lot to the enjoyment of our stay.
