"Historic charm, old building quirks, great breakfast"

9.0

Charming 114-year-old inn in historic, but well cared for neighborhood. Great location with easy access to business areas and the bay. They have done well to maintain the original character of the establishment with vintage furniture and fixtures; it definitely feels like a time machine to another era of travel. Staff were friendly and the continental breakfast far exceeded my expectations, with delicious pastries and yummy egg dishes.

The floors in this old building are not level, which gives the inn a mild funhouse vibe when walking down hallways. My room was in the corner of the building and the bed was ever so slightly tilted. I suggest management consider putting little risers under the feet of the beds until they are leveled out to compensate for the uneven floors. The hot water came readily, but the old plumbing made it difficult to maintain a constant temperature while showering.

"A step back in history"

10.0

As a senior citizen, I loved taking a step back in time. This place reminded me of places I stayed while traveling with my parents as a small child. The greatest part was the welcoming feel of the lobby and porches. I loved sitting out on the back porch, reading, and greeting other guests each evening. The staff was so welcoming and friendly. They even gave me a gallon bag of ice from the kitchen for my little cooler. There was always fresh coffee or hot water for tea in the lobby. There was also an old out-of-tune piano in the lobby that someone played one evening. It just added to the nostalgic feel of the place. My room was tiny, but very clean.

As someone else mentioned in their review, the walls are very thin. I could even hear my neighbors open a can of soda and every word of their conversations. However, the window air conditioner would drown out all the noise when I turned it on. I don't think I would recommend bringing small children to this hotel because the whole floor would hear them cry. Since my visit was in October, almost all of the guests were senior citizens, and all were mindful of their neighbors. There is no elevator, so you need to be able to carry your luggage up to the second or third floor. If you can't, I'm sure one of the staff members would help you out. Unfortunately, the 1911 restaurant was closed the 2 nights I stayed, which was a disappointment. They did serve a continental breakfast in the morning, though.

"Very nice stay and just a few streets in from a bay on Lake Michigan."

8.0

The location is excellent. Lynn, the desk clerk was very friendly and courteous. She told me about the foot bridge over Highwas 31 to get to the walkway around the bay. We had an excellent courtesy breakfast in the 1911 dining room. The street was quiet at night.

Our room was comfortable, but a bit smaller than we expected.

Breakfast was a small continental breakfast with some of the most amazingly delicious pastries. Parking can sometimes be a challenge but it’s not horrible.

"Loved it!!"

10.0

This property was absolutely beautiful! The historic architecture is stunning! Very reminiscent of times gone by. The place reminds me of going to my grandparents home. Quaint and cozy. Our room was a 2 twin bed room and felt like a bedroom at our grandparents home. Absolutely LOVED it!! Lynn and Belinda (front desk) were so kind! Troy (the host for the restaurant was great! We enjoyed talking with the night clerk for quite awhile one evening. Our server for dinner our first night there was very attentive and friendly The breakfast each morning was amazing and had plenty of options! I (we) will definitely stay here again. Hopefully it doesn’t lose its old time charm and become like typical chain hotels.
