Altstadt Hotel Magic Luzern

Great location, but was a very confusing check in process as was hard to find where to check in. No AC, so it was hot, and at least they provided a fan to cool off the room

Perfect location!

A little awkward that it’s not in main hotel but still a great room in a great location! Everything was walkable and the staff was very kind!

We booked the lotus room. It was very spacious and well kept. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room. The room however is located in a different building and you need to go to alstadt Krone for Checkin, checkout, breakfast etc. Given that the reception is not in the same building, it was inconvenient to walk to a different building to get any amenities if needed. There was no parking nearby and valet parking was not available due to an event the day we checked in. However the staff was helpful in giving directions to a parking garage nearby. It cost us chf 26 to park overnight. It would be nice to have some arrangement for the staff to bring in extra towels etc without needing to go back and forth. Overall we had a good experience.

Overall, a decent hotel but a bit quirky. The room was huge and felt more like an apartment. The décor is a bit unusual but not bad. Blue walls, paintings, multi-colored lamps, etc. The room wasn’t air conditioned but two electric fans were provided and made all the difference in the world. I wish more European hotels would simply include a fan in the room. A/C is not always needed in this part of the world but occasionally a fan is necessary. The room had windows on both sides, so cross ventilation was possible. The large church bell tower across the square did not sound the bells throughout the night and the square was actually rather quiet. It was easy to get a good night’s sleep. The room is clearly older and maybe in need of some renovation, but everything was adequate. The bathroom was dated but everything worked. There is no front desk at this location and you must go to another nearby hotel to check in and check out. This was not a huge problem and the distance between the two isn’t much (maybe 300 meters?). The staff at the front desk was helpful and we had no trouble with check-in once we located the other hotel (it wasn’t completely clear where it was but we found it quickly). The best part of the room was the INCREDIBLE bar downstairs adjacent to the entrance. What a fantastic place. The location of the Magic Lantern is its greatest feature. One block off the river, near restaurants, banks and bars. The train station is a short walk away. Not a bad value for your money.

Overall a good hotel

The room was a bit odd in terms of decoration and layout. But everything worked, it was quiet and clean and well located. Amazing bar downstairs adjacent to the hotel enterance. 2 electric fans were provided in the room and this is a key feature in hot weather. The room was more of a suite with a large sitting room. Great view of the square and nearby church (thankfully the bells do not sound at night).
