Laurel Lake Placid

As a Hyatt Globalist, I booked Laurel Lake Placid through Hyatt’s Mr & Mrs Smith collection nearly 11 months in advance and came with high expectations. Unfortunately, this property fell far short of them. The positives first: the location is excellent, and the initial Scandinavian-inspired design of the lobby and lounge areas is attractive and inviting. At first glance, the property has a lot of charm and potential. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives largely end. The rooms are dramatically darker than they appear in the photos. Our first assigned room was particularly disappointing—one window looked directly onto a raccoon staring in, while the other was essentially subterranean, allowing almost no natural light. The further you move into the building, the more the property feels like a funnel into darkness, which creates a very different atmosphere than the marketing materials suggest. Service was perhaps the biggest disappointment. During our six-night stay, management and staff rarely acknowledged guests, let alone asked how our stay was going. Housekeeping never vacuumed our room or cleaned the bathroom once during the entire stay, despite multiple requests. Amenities were also lacking. The pool had apparently been closed for months, yet we were never informed before arrival. This was especially frustrating because we were traveling with two children who had been looking forward to using it throughout our family vacation. Finding out only after arrival was a major letdown. Dining options were minimal. There is no on-site food service outside of breakfast, and the bar was only open five nights during our stay. Even when open, the staff often seemed uninterested in being there. At breakfast, employees appeared more focused on their phones than on ensuring food items were replenished or coffee remained available. Ultimately, Laurel Lake Placid feels like a property that has a compelling concept but lacks the operational execution necessary to deliver the experience its pricing, photography, and Hyatt affiliation suggest. Given my experience, I struggle to understand how this property remains part of the Hyatt/Mr & Mrs Smith collection in its current state. A great location and attractive design cannot overcome poor service, neglected housekeeping, unavailable amenities, and a guest experience that consistently felt like an afterthought.

Modern spacious hotel (quite minimalist}. Excellent location for the town. Good room with all necessary facilities. Continental breakfast good. friendly welcome on arrival from Luke ?

No headboard on the bed so pillows kept disappearing over the back, but not a major problem.

Location is great, room was clean, shower hot, bed was very comfortable. The price was a bit less than other, similar places.

The included breakfast is trash. They might as well not bother. Coffee is pods from a single Keurig thing in the lobby - so everyone staying at the hotel has to queue up for a cup in the AM. Absolute nonsense.

There was no desk for computer work or surface to eat on and no microwave. The shower seemed as it was cheaply put together due to the drain being loose and the floor feeling like it was no longer "glued" to the base beneath it. And there was no surface to place soap/shampoo etc. on inside the shower, it was a stand outside the shower.

Everything was fantastic! I would love to stay there again!!!

The location was decent.

The pool was closed and I wasn’t told about it until I asked the front desk where it was located. Apparently it failed the safety inspection. My room was not the one I paid for and I wasn’t told about that either until I ASKED after check in. The TVs, you couldn’t stream Netflix or anything else. My one shower knob wasn’t even connected to the shower itself. Games in the lobby weren’t able to be played because pieces were missing.
