"Dark dingy room with stuck shade that wouldn't go up or down"

2.0

Subject: Complaint Regarding Recent Stay and Conference Facilities – [Dates of Stay] Dear General Manager, I am writing to share my disappointment regarding my recent stay at the Tarrytown House Estate and the subpar facilities provided for the NYACP Collaborative Practice training held on your property. I paid $700 for my accommodations, and my wife accompanied me for the weekend. Given the reputation of your estate and the premium rate charged, we expected a comfortable and well-maintained environment. Unfortunately, our experience fell well below those expectations. My specific concerns regarding the property are as follows: Substandard Room Conditions: Our hotel room was incredibly dark and dingy, making for a rather depressing stay. Furthermore, the window shade was broken and would not go up or down, which is a basic maintenance issue that should have been addressed prior to our arrival. Inadequate Conference Facilities: The conference room provided for our two-day professional training was entirely ill-equipped for modern business needs. There were no accessible power outlets for attendees to plug in their laptops. For a 16-hour professional seminar, having to rely on portable chargers and battery rationing is unacceptable for a venue hosting corporate events. When professionals travel for conferences, they expect the venue to provide both restful accommodations and a functional workspace. Unfortunately, the Tarrytown House Estate failed on both fronts. Given the poor condition of our room and the inadequate conference facilities, I do not feel the $700 I paid accurately reflects the quality of the services provided. I am requesting a partial refund of my stay to account for these significant inconveniences. I look forward to hearing how your management team plans to address this matter. Sincerely, [Your Printed Name] [Your Room Number during the stay, if remembered]

"My Mother’s Day brunch experience"

2.0

My family and I had attended the Mother’s Day Brunch at your venue May 10 2026. We were very disappointed and dissatisfied with the food, service, setting, and photo shoots. Firstly we arrived and was not directed to the venue as the woman on the road pointed where to park but no direction to the venue. We get seated in a separate room from the main room with no view, no music and had to walk to the buffet for our food not knowing where all the food was. There were no labels telling what the foods were, ( special gourmet items) and the staff was not friendly nor pleasant as they refilled the trays of food. My husband had to wait for his waffle, told it would be ready in 10 minutes as he proceeded to wait and then was told another 10 minutes, he gave up waiting. There was no toast to be found, just hard bagels and small pieces of bread. The service was fair as our dirty plates remained on the table and we were not offered more juice during the meal, only when we sat down initially. The photo shoot was a joke as we waited for a family to take all different shots and multiple ones as we just wanted two and the photographer didn’t interject and allow us to take a few before going back to taking more of the other family. It was like they had their own private photo shoot. We ended up taking one photo by the photographer. Overall we did not enjoy most of the food and for the price, the whole experience was not what was advertised and not what I expected. Very disappointing. Will not have brunch here again for Mother’s Day.

"A dirty room and nonexistent customer service"

4.0

Do not book an overnight stay here unless you simply need a roof over your head for the night and you don't care much about cleanliness. We booked a room for one night because we had reservations to the restaurant Goosefeather in the main house. (The restaurant will have its own separate review but was excellent.) We checked in and went soon after to the restaurant. It was not until later when we lay down on the bed that we noticed brown globs of something stuck to the ceiling directly overhead. Then we started really looking around the room and noticed the air vents and smoke alarms had not been cleaned in quite some time and were almost completely clogged with a thick accumulation of dust. But the worst was the shower. There were short black hairs on the floor and walls before we used it. It was disgusting. We mentioned all of this to the manager on duty the next morning, Tim Falk. (We did not see the condition of the shower until the following morning.) We showed him photos of the room and his response was, "I'll have to look at the room later, but there is nothing I can do." He asked me to email the photos to him and if a problem was acknowledged, the hotel would mail us a partial refund in the form of a check. I emailed Mr. Falk four times over the course of six weeks and never received a response. I then wrote an email to the General Manager, Mr. Sam Calello, and did not receive a reply from him either. The hotel's exterior architecture is impressive and beautiful, but the rooms are apparently not cleaned after every guest and the customer service is nonexistent. Stay away.
