Montague Inn

Several good things: 1. breakfast was very good (though the yogurt had expired by 2 weeks) 2. the venue itself was excellent and very well maintained. Definite 'wow' factor on appearances alone. Decor very good; nice sized 'event' room. 3. grounds are enormous -- lots of possibilities here 4. best mattress of any experienced over a 7 day trip at 6 hotels/BNB's 5. pricing was excellent

This could be a world-class facility, but several little things that added up to big things. Foreknowledge of these would have changed our plans (understandably, though: your mileage may vary) 1. No accessibility options: all guest rooms on 2nd floor with no elevator; no grab bars in bathroom; very low and small toilet; slick-when-wet tiles in both bathroom and shower make for a serious fall risk 2. very low seating in room made it very difficult to get up and down 3. very high mattress made entry require athletic ability (yes -- both points 2 and 3 existed at the same time in the same place) 4. very low water pressure; difficult to obtain and regulate hot water (had to turn on sink faucet to get hot water going in shower?) 5. curious about security: did the front door even have a lock? If so, it was unclear how guests would get in. 6. Hindu icon decorations and a provided book of philosophy was not welcomed.

The grounds are beautiful. The architecture of the building is great, the history is also interesting. However, the interior is in need of a major cleaning. Very dusty under tables, dirty baseboards, and walls that really need to be washed. There was peeling paint in our room too! The solid wood floors really need to be sanded and refinished as well. The furniture is very old and likely original but also looked stained. The bathroom floor felt sticky on the soles of my Converse shoes and looked very dull. Whereas the exterior grounds are beautiful, the interior really needs work. A fresh coat of paint (after washing the filmy walls) would be a great start. The scratched and stained hardwood floors could very easily be refinished as well. Just a good cleaning would help a lot. Interesting place and a good price, but we will not be staying again entirely based on the run down and somewhat dirty interior.

This is a historic inn dating back to 1929 that has been well cared for.

I love the Grounds, the atmosphere, the staff, the prepared weekend breakfast, even the continental breakfast that they serve. Everything was neat and clean, quiet, serene and managed well.

die Lage

ich weis nicht wie das Haus zu einer Bewertung von 8 Punkten kommt! das was dort geboten wird ist Stand 60er/70er Jahre. Vielleicht habe ich ja auch nur das "beste" Zimmer in der letzten Ecke des Hauses gehabt - der Name "Rust" war da vielleicht auch Programm. Zusammenfassend - wer so etwas mag der muss auf jeden Fall mal dort hin fahren

The grounds were beautiful, the service was good, the food was good, the bed was comfortable.

The room was cold, no adjustable temp in the shower, no cold water in the sink and the location of the toilet paper was difficult to reach.
