International Resort Hotel Yurakujo

The staff were lovely and friendly. The airport shuttle was very handy.

The whole place is worn and dated, the grounds need work, leaves everywhere and unmown lawns. The outside pool was empty of water and the indoor pool was nothing special. Its quite literally in the middle of no where, nothing is within walkable distance. The sports bar was closed our whole stay and the only available food was the buffet which was fairly expensive. Not quite what we were expecting......

The hotel provides a good shuttle bus service between Narita airport and the hotel - the journey takes about 40 minutes and the shuttle runs fairly frequently but less so during the middle of the day. Our room was comfortable and the bed had western style pillows and a duvet. The best thing about it was a chance to use the Onsen "Yuraku Castle" which is close to the hotel. This is more of an onsen theme park than a traditional Japanese onsen - Yukata and towels are provided and after getting changed and walking up a darkened, "star" lit tunnel with warm water flowing across the floor, you enter a Kabuki inspired collection of tatami floored dining areas, bars and a games area. Beyond this are male and female baths. You could easily spend several hours relaxing, bathing, eating and drinking.

The hotel room was a little tired and outdated, the selection at the dinner buffet was limited and the presence of several large groups of Chinese tourists made it noisy, crowded and made dishes run out. The chicken was overcooked and tough and although steak was being cooked to order it was always at least medium so a bit tough as well. We felt it would have been better to eat Japanese food in the Onsen and would not buy a dinner inclusive package again. The breakfast buffet was also busy and crowded and the choices were much more limited than those offered at business hotels we've stayed in.
