La Cala Golf Resort
Before booking this hotel I looked at the reviews. One review read something like this: “they could not do enough to make us happy…..” And I thought to myself. Really? Is this too good to be true? Because in my experience very few hotels have the attitude of wanting to bend over backwards to make guests happy (even if a hotel is extremely expensive).
We were in rented cars to La Cala Golf Resort, and even though the navigation kept wanting us to turn to the hotel, I kept telling my husband to keep going because I thought this hotel looked even better than the photos I had seen online. Luckily I was wrong - THIS WAS INDEED LA CALA GOLF RESORT.
RECEPTION:
Immediately we were greeted by the gorgeous people in reception with big smiles and warm welcomes. We were three hours early so the rooms weren’t ready, but reception stored our luggage and recommended we try the clubhouse for lunch.
Throughout our six day stay they have been nothing but helpful, attentive, warm, with humor and SUPER ACCOMODATING. We booked our restaurants, tee-times and spa through reception, and when I tell you they were amazing every single time, I am not exagerating. I really appreciate it when you sense peoples personalities and they aren’t just “pleasant faces”. These people have warmth, grace and humor.
THE ROOMS:
We stayed in the newly renovated rooms (my husband and I in one room and our two sons 18 and 21 in another room). Beautiful view over the golfcourse. Close to the pool and restaurants. It was perfect for us. The rooms were beautiful and light. Great bed and pillows. Towels soft and big. Nice lotions and shampoo/conditioner. The cleaning of the rooms was SUPERB! Every day we returned from a round o golf to a wonderfully inviting room. Thank you!
THE POOL:
The pool is in the middle of the courtyard with views to the golf course. Loads of sunloungers with pillows for comfort. We had lunch by the pool one day and it was great - comfort/cafe food but also healthy salads. The frozen drinks made in the pool bar are so delicious (we loved the virgin strawberry/mango daquirries and the pina coladas). The atmosphere around the pool is fun and warm - not stuffy like so many other places. It is a place of relaxation and fun. The staff - both at the pool bar and Manuelo the lifeguard - were great. Again, super friendly, sweet and attentive.
The SPA:
Wonderful place. Very serene and peaceful. Gorgeous shop with beautiful clothing/bathingsuits and essential oils, candels. In our package we had two complimentary days to use the spa ammeneties. After a round of golf we went to relax in the jacuzzi and steam room. Absolutely lovely. They also have sun beds there and it is more calm than the “normal” pool area. So if you want peace and serenety the spa is the place to go. We didn’t try any of their treatments, but I imagine that would be very relaxing and indulgent. The staff there gave us a full tour of everything and made sure we didn’t need anything. Once again, very welcoming and warm people.
THE RESTAURANTS:
BREAKFAST: Again we were welcomed by such happy and warm people the first morning (all our mornings). Mercedes and Luis were so great. Greeting us like we were family and making sure we had whatever we needed. Loads of fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereal and pastry. Also a hot breakfast where the most lovely chefs prepare fresh omelets or eggs to your likings. Because we were playing golf every morning we appreciated the quality of the breakfast. I am kinda particular with my coffee and didn’t drink it in the morning because it was only available from an automated machine. For me it was the only thing I didn’t love. At all the other restaurants they have great espresso machines and so I enjoyed my coffees later in the day when at the clubhouse, the steak house and the patio.
THE PATIO: Is the restaurant right off the reception area. It is made in the style of a patio/courtyard/town square and it was MAGICAL. For me, this was my FAVOURITE restaurant. The staff there (Maria, Antonio and everyone else), the setting, the ambiance, the tableware, the live music (!!!!!!!) , and of course THE FOOD. We have eaten all over the world, but I think I had my favourite meal ever on Sunday when they had a paella night with the most delicious set menu and flamenco dancers. It felt like we were in a movie - everythin was so idyllic and perfect. We dined at The Patio 3 times for dinner. I can’t tell you enough good things - you’ll just have to try it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
THE CLUBHOUSE: Every day after golf we would go there for lunch. Goodness!! Ususally when a restaurant has a large menu selection it isn’t a good thing (in my experience). Often they aren’t great at anything, really. But The Clubhouse was such an exception. They had all our favourite comfort foods and Spanish specialties and we had 7 lunches there, and it was ALL BRILLIANT. I don’t quite understand it actually, because they were also very quick with the food orders. I can’t make one single complaint. Georgia, Antonio and Oscar were GREAT.
THE STEAK HOUSE: Opened a week ago, and they specialize in meat (obviously). Angel were there at both our visits and he was just so sweet and attentive. Whatever we needed, he made it happen and the food was WONDERFULL. We tried all the steaks, chicken, salmon and several starters, and everything was to perfection.
GOLFING: This trip was a birthday trip for my husband, who absolutely LOVES to paly golf. We were four adults - three of them with handicaps around 20, and me with a handicap of 45. They have three courses: EUROPE, AMERICA and ASIA. We loved Asia! All of us played every morning and my husband and sons also played at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Eventhough I love golfing, I also REALLY love tanning, so 18 holes were enough for me every day… Courses were great and we will definitely be coming back. In our home club in Denmark we walk the course, so we really appreciated the well-maintained buggies here. Staff at the golf-shop and buggy place were also immensely lovely - and so were the young ladies bringing us cold beverages and snacks on the golf course.
On the day we were leaving the hotel, we weren’t flying until late that evening. I asked at the front desk if they could help us make the day go smooth eventhough we were checking out of the room. Their reply: “Everything is possible here!” They were so good to us and made the day so easy and convenient for us, so the men played golf, I sunbathed by the pool with frozen drinks, and we ended the day in the spa where we could shower and get ready for our flight ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
These people are too good to be true (but it is true😍)
I know I am being very positive in this review, and I may just seem overly positive. TRUELY, this is not the case. I have been to so many hotels/resorts. Most five stars. Never have I experienced a beautiful resort, excellent staff, ambiance, and delicious food to this degree. That is why I am so positive. These people deserve everything I have written above.
Thank you for making my husbands birthday gift so special and amazing - we really appreciate all you have done for us and we will most certaintly be back!!❤️
