I can not improve on the wonderful reviews already written about Villa Margaridi. It is an oasis of calm in a beautiful medieval city. Our hosts, José and Hugo, could not have been more hospitable, friendly, and generous. Villa Margaridi was the highlight of our 3 week visit to northern Spain and Portugal. We haven't stopped talking about it. We will return - soon, I hope. A warm thank you to José and Hugo for making our stay so memorable.

Já viajei bastante e essa foi a minha 3ª vez em Portugal. Nunca fomos recebidos com tanto carinho e cordialidade como fomos pelo seu José e o Hugo. A propriedade é excepcional, cheia de história, além de ter uma estrutura excelente e estar localizada muito próxima das principais atrações turísticas. Fomos tratados como "melhores amigos" da chegada até a nossa saída! Espero voltar um dia! Parabéns à equipe toda!

The host was absolutely fantastic and probably the best we have had in many years of travelling. We praise their attention, consideration and kindness to make us feel at home and among friends rather than just paying guests and make the best out of our stay. The villa was exactly what we were hoping for, relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable. We will definitely be coming back :)

Villa Margaridi in Guimarães exceeded all expectations during our six stays at this remarkable property. This is truly one of northern Portugal's hidden gems. Perfect Location The villa sits just over a mile from Guimarães' Historic Centre, with the medieval castle and Palace of the Dukes of Braganza within a 15-minute walk. Excellent restaurants are just a 10-12 minute stroll away. The location is ideal for day trips - Braga is only 16 miles away (19-minute drive), Amarante is 21 miles (35 minutes), and the famous Douro Valley wine region is about 47 miles away.​ Beautiful Gardens and Pool The baroque garden is absolutely stunning and holds National Heritage Site status - it's the best-preserved Portuguese Baroque garden and the only private garden in northern Portugal with this recognition. The pool area provides a perfect spot to relax after sightseeing. The grounds create a peaceful oasis that's perfect for unwinding.​ Outstanding Hosts José and Hugo are exceptional hosts who go above and beyond. They provide thoughtful touches like fresh breakfast supplies, bread, and croissants delivered daily. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality made every stay memorable.​ Stylish, Clean Villas We stayed in all their villas over multiple visits, and each one was impeccably maintained with modern amenities, fully equipped kitchens, comfortable living areas, and pristine bathrooms. Some units even feature private jacuzzis. The blend of historical character with contemporary comfort is perfect.​ Peaceful Atmosphere Despite being close to the city center, Villa Margaridi maintains a tranquil environment. It's the perfect place to relax, think, and reflect while having easy access to all the attractions Guimarães and the region have to offer.​ Villa Margaridi delivers an unforgettable experience that combines luxury, history, and genuine Portuguese hospitality. Absolutely worth every penny - we'll definitely be back!

The villa was amazing — beautifully designed with a modern interior, a lovely private green yard, and an absolutely fantastic outdoor jacuzzi that we enjoyed every moment of! José (the owner?) was incredibly friendly and welcoming — he even greeted us with a bottle of champagne to celebrate my husband’s birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch. We absolutely loved our stay here.

The only small downside was the breakfast. It wasn’t really a “prepared” breakfast, but rather a selection of items like yogurt, cheese, ham, milk, and juice in the fridge, plus fresh bread delivered in the morning. While there was plenty to eat, we missed having freshly made options like eggs and vegetables.
