Doulos Phos The Ship Hotel

Enjoyed the unique atmosphere of this ship converted to a hotel.. Staff was amazing, as was the food. Big breakfast buffet included with our room. Lovely infinity pool looking out over the ocean. Nice places to sit and relax.

The bed was a bit firmer than we prefer, but we slept well. There is no town nearby, so this is a place to just rest and relax in nice surroundings.

Amazing location, very unique hotel design. Couldn't wish for better staff really went out of their way to make it a really great stay. The owner Mr Law was present at the hotel most of our stay and was extremely accommodating and full of recommendations for dishes to try at the restaurant.

The breakfast for today 21/10/25 There is no main course buffet and we were told to order but only 1 per pax. Mind you if buffet we are able to take as many as we wish. There is no room service for food :(

The Doulos Phos (the ship hotel) is a very unique and extraordinary hotel with so much history and character. Only five minutes away from the ferry terminal. Check-in was straight forward. All the staff (dressed in navy uniforms) were very polite and helpful throughout our stay. Out of peak season, there were very few people. Our ocean view balcony cabin was quite spacious and very impressive modern decor, but keeping in times with a nautical theme, with attention to detail and comfort. In our cabin were tea/coffee, fridge, bottles of water, a couple of soft drinks and a few snacks. The setting is fabulous, the infinity pools are large, clean and refreshing with a spa as well. The gym is good for a workout, equipped with free weights, machines & ocean views. The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom is spacious with various personal hygiene products. There was a variety for breakfast, including cereals, toast, jams, eggs/omelette, tea/coffee and traditional Indonesian dishes. We had dinner at the restaurant, which overlooked the bay in a beautiful romantic setting. Dinner was delicious, and very reasonably priced. We were lucky enough to have a private tour by the owner, Mr Eric Saw; showing us the engine room and other various original rooms and explaining the history of the ship and his journey into buying it, and converting it to the beautiful hotel it is today. Overall, we had a fantastic time on board, from the friendly greeting & welcome drink till our departure. I loved the ship tour, Eric was very delightful and absolutely captivating, funny and a pleasure to chat to, with many stories. We also purchased Eric’s Saw’s book about his journey with the Doulos Phos and personally autographed. What a great experience! I would definitely go back there again!

The owner and staff were incredibly helpful and friendly! They went above and beyond for us during our stay. We loved the uniqueness and history of the ship and what it represents. Everyone was extremely welcoming and kind, the cabin is really comfortable, spacious, clean and we all slept well. The cleaners also left us a little note with some decorative towels which my daughter loved. The owner and the staff here are some of the most helpful and welcoming people we have ever encountered on our travels abroad.

We felt like the facilities mentioned did not live up to our expectations, or were perhaps slightly exaggerated. We were not keen on the food, and we found it quite expensive considering the quality was not the best. It also would have been nice if the spa was open, but I understand that there is some renovation work taking place. The location is not too great for families or for people wanting to go out and about and explore without having to rely on taxis.

I don't usually write hotel reviews, but our stay at this hotel (sorry: ship) was so exceptional and so memorable that I want to give it the highest possible rating. Thank you very much for the great experience and all the best.
