Hampton Inn Rock Springs

We have stayed at this hotel multiples times in the last twenty years. The location is great, however this hotel needs serious updating. We were upgraded and our room had a large tub next to our bed. At one time, this might have been desirable, but not today. The carpet was very worn, furniture chipped, and the seating was so dingy looking. The office chair was torn and looked unsafe to sit in, enough that my husband and I actually ate standing up. No place to plug in a phone charger next to the beds, without moving the end tables out. What saved our stay were the two front desk staff members we interacted with, who were both extremely friendly. I felt the breakfast setup was one of the cleanest and plentiful that I’ve seen in a long time.

We are driving cross country and decided to stay here as the location was a good stopping point. I called ahead to make the reservation as we are traveling with our cat. I told the woman we would be arriving very late at night (like 1 or 2 in the morning) and just needed to get a decent few hours sleep. We arrived at 2:30 am after driving over 900 miles to find the parking lot almost completely full and received a paper stating the hotel was doing renovations daily 8am - 8pm. I’m not sure why I wasn’t forewarned about the renovations when I literally told them I was coming to sleep for a few hours, but we were exhausted and decided to just try to sleep. The rooms were clean enough, but definitely outdated and in need of repairs. The desk chair was torn apart on the arms, the bathroom door lock was broken, and just generally in need of repair. We planned to sleep until 10 and then get back on the road, but of course our room was right above the construction, so that woke us up at 8am and then housekeeping knocked on the door of our room at 9am. We hadn’t put the do not disturb sign on the door because we were exhausted and since we were only staying one night and in my experience housekeeping waits for those leaving to checkout and then go in the room, so not sure why that would’ve been necessary. I’m a frequent traveler, and I’ve never seen housekeeping try to go in a room (twice) of someone checking out. The hotel refunded everything except the pet fee, but I think they need to do a better job telling travelers ahead of time about the renovations and training their housekeeping staff not to try to clean checkouts until they leave.

Staff at check-in were super nice. The room could stand to be updated but clean and comfortable. The breakfast had great options, something for everyone.

Dated and dirty, if not dangerous. Mold in room, jagged crumbling tile grout to slice our feet, and just a dirty uncomfortable stay. Oh, and the shampoo and conditioner bottles were empty, there was no toilet paper, and no eggs left at breakfast. Avoid. Franchisee: Refresh ASAP, and manage like you care, please.
