Blenkinsopp Castle Inn

There is a lot to like about Blenkinsopp but unfortunately it is overshadowed by the negatives I found. I was in room 1 which is a self contained room at the back of the pub. The good things were the nice pub, welcoming lady on arrival, good beer and good food. The room was a decent size, bed comfortable and nice shower. Breakfast was good.

All seemed good until I tried to go to sleep. It was then that the loud unremitting noise became noticeable from the boiler room next door (see pictures). In addition there was a bright green ‘emergency exit’ sign - in the bedroom which could not be turned off. Between the noise and the light a good nights sleep was impossible. I raised the matter with the lady next morning and was given short shrift as apparently having a bright green light in the bedroom is ‘the law’ and the noise was because I was next to the plant room … err correct. For £120 I felt very upset but was too tired to argue …. Very poor indeed.

Food was good pub food met expectations

My wife is allergic to animals (hair) controlled by antihistamines & inhalers - there was dog hair on the chairs in the room. Didn’t ruin the visit but made her breathing a bit uncomfortable

The staff were super friendly and nothing too much trouble. The room was lovely as was the food.

Would have l enjoyed slightly bigger portion of veg on the evening meal as they were very small - but the meal was delicious.

What a fabulous find for visiting Cumbria and Hadrian's wall. Staff were exceptional, friendly and professional. The Pub is cosey and welcoming. Food served was fabulous. Breakfast was very nice, Beds like sleeping in a cloud.

The building has loads of character and lots of history, with a small derelict castle section still standing.

The decor was top notch, the beds were comfortable, especially after I'd walked 125 miles in a week along the Pennine Way. The showers were hot & it was great to be able to walk just a short way to the restaurant where the meals were good.

Breakfast and dinner lovely, very generous portions. Room comfortable and great to have your own little patio area. Informative, lovely hosts.
