Spark by Hilton Brockville

I booked through a third party so was not able to get points, I was unaware of that but reception let me know and I will correct that by booking direct. The staff was helpful, eager to accommodate needs and answer questions, and there was plenty of staff on duty (a rarity these days!). I was asked if I prefer ground or second floor at check in, and I prefer ground floor due to mobility issues with stairs (and there is no elevator). So I thought it was very kind to be asked that question. The room was smaller than I am used to, but the desk was perfect (lots of outlets and very good internet for work) and there was a huge big screen TV that I was able to log into for Netflix, etc. The room was very quiet despite its proximity to reception and on main floor. Due to east < - > west facing, there was very little traffic noise from the 401 (a problem when I stayed at a competing property next door which faces north < - > south). I prefer in-room coffee which this hotel does not have, but there was 24/7 coffee in the breakfast room. Having the microwave and small refrigerator in-room is a big plus, and the fridge was quiet (which some are not in many hotels), a HUGE plus. I loved being able to get a soda and snack at the little tuck shop in lobby, and they even had microwavable meals there. Since becoming a Hilton owned property, there have been aesthetic improvements. The hotel is walking distance to several eating establishments and a dollar store in the even a traveler forgot something. I will stay here again when traveling for business throughout southeastern Ontario, as the lower cost over several other hotels in town. I felt safe although the room was ground floor, and the black-out curtains were helpful for sleep. There is lots of parking, and it seemed like lots of contractors stay here (and they leave early so the breakfast room, which is open 7-10am, was largely empty - a plus).

There was no in-room coffee, which I prefer over having to go to the breakfast room (even though the coffee/tea was available 24/7). The door latch from lobby to room hallways was a challenge (it was sticking, and with bags it is a challenge to open/go through), For accessibility and convenience management perhaps should consider removing the door altogether or making it an auto-open (or auto-sliding framework).

Nice location and affordable and the dog was welcomed.

The cleaning lady boss was not pleasant. She was very negative towards the counter staff that was trying to help with a problem i had.
