The hotel is dated but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good.
Clean and spatious pool area eith hot tub and sauna. Two large outdoor decks to relax and enjoy the waterfront views. On major paved pathway for walking and biking. Plents of restaurants and shoping within walking distance. Ample well lit parking. Very nice breakfast.

The location is great. Walking distance to town, campus, and right on the canal for a great view. Nice breakfast, plenty of parking, clean rooms.
The bathrooms could be updated as far as grout around tub etc. Otherwise great place to stay and reasonable in price.
Big Con: Cleanliness needed improvement, human and what seemed like dog hair around the room and bathroom. It smelled strongly in a way that said “we’re trying to make it smell good enough to cover bad odors”. We stayed in 6 hotels over an 8 night trip and this was the only one I needed to wipe down and spray Lysol to feel comfortable. No way my bare feet were walking on this carpet. Definitely needed a white noise maker having a room on the first floor. Pros: Spacious room. Lovely deck and setting on the water to eat our carry out dinner, I liked the layout of the room - an extra large vanity area, sheets were soft, easy parking and walking to town for dinner. (Sidebar - lots of restaurants seemed to be closed or help wanted. Even the convenience store my husband walked to was closed by 8 pm.) The breakfast while typical in what it offered (waffle maker, boiled eggs, etc,) had long hours and was well maintained, appeared clean, and the breakfast room was big w water view.

Check out Time was great breakfast hours were good breakfast was substantial. Staff was very friendly. There is no elevator for the 2nd floor but the view of Portage Lake was really nice. We will definitely be back!
The hotel was great, perfect location close to everything in Houghton. Great view of the canal and Hancock on the other side. The room was spacious, although the bathroom was TINY - but the rest of the stay made up for that one inconvenience.
