Hotel AtypiQ

24h breakfast and the common area concept was great. Rooms were clean and staff were really nice. Most importantly it was a prime location.

Notice rooms are very small. Smallest hotel room I have ever seen! It may not fit and accessible for everyone.

Location was perfect. Open kitchen was very nice Rooftop with fire pit was nice Free laundry & detergent was really great TV was nice Shampoo/body wash/conditioner being included was nice and seemed like good quality. Coffee machine was nice and always open

The bed! The room was small, and the hotel did warn me in advance that they had a Murphy bed, but I didn't think much of it. I am fine with a small room and planning on being out all day anyway. However, because it is a Murphy bed it is attached to an apparatus on the wall that creeks and groans every time you even shift your weight on the bed. Sitting/scooching in would make a ton of noise and it just seems unnecessary. I would have rather just had less space and a normal bed. There also was not a towel hook near the sink or any night stand etc. it seemed like the room was optimized for space saving, but I feel like there are other ways to do it other than the creaky Murphy bed lol. Finally included breakfast was kind of bare, essentially just an open kitchen with a few essentials you can take at your leisure. Ok if you are not a big breakfast person or planning on eating out mostly.

What a great experience! I can't say enough good things about this hotel. As its name implies it's atypical. It's so well run! They do things to enhance your visit. It's very clean and quiet. The staff are all lovely. The location is perfect, in the upper old town area, walking distance from EVERYTHING. They provide: free hot chocolate and fizzy water; available food for you to make a meal any time (eggs, bread, peanut butter, yogurt, OJ in the AM), no charge; extremely well furnished kitchen; free laundry. The list goes on and on. Luggage storage, an upper terrace to hang out on, 12 pm checkout...who does that? I'm used to 10, maybe 11 but noon is so relaxing. Now...it IS a little quirky but in a good way. They have maximized the space in their admittedly small rooms by having a whole space saving system including a bed that pulls down from the ceiling! During the day the bed can be lifted out of the way to provide a table that comes out of the wall....the whole thing is just so clever. I travel alone so I just left the bed down, which worked also. If the idea of a tiny house appeals to you you should give this a try. Because the rooms are small they're able to be rented at a bargain price, especially considering all the perks and the great location. Staying here definitely enhanced my stay in Quebec. It seemed so...European, and smart.

I can see where having 2 people stay in a room could be a little tight. But I found it fun.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We did not actually stay at the Hotel AtypiQ. As we arrived late, check-in was at the adjoining Hotel Champlain. We were informed at check-in that our room in the AtypiQ was not available because the bed was broken, but we had been rebooked in the Champlain. All very smooth and transparent, so thank you to the front desk and management for being proactive. Hotel Champlain is not “atypical” — no beds that raise/lower, no make-your-own-breakfast — but it was a perfectly fine place for our stay in Quebec. The location is great, right in the middle of the Old Town. The staff was friendly. The room was large and comfortable. Breakfast included.

Sink was not located in bathroom and didn't have a separate light.
