Appartamenti Campo Smith

Ok Italy, a change from our usual French trip due to half term prices, and also wanting to try Italy......big mistake ! Family in tow, 2 x kids 8 & 15, we arrived 3 hours late thanks once again to crap Crystal ski and Thomson, so as we arrived at almost 5pm instead of just after 1pm, how amazed were we to find the apartment still not ready !!!!!! Shocking. So off we crawled to the welcome meeting after 11 hours of travel, where they informed us that the free bus service stops at 5pm each night and the only supermarket is over 15 mins walk away ! (that's not in the brochure, as they very cleverly just state "free bus to shops easy"), so off we went back to reception, and room was ready at 5.45pm, hurrah, then to the hire shop chosen by Crystal ski "sport Dain" which was a nightmare, about 500 people in a tiny shop, with 4 staff, so took over an hour ! (book gear elsewhere if poss therefore) The position of the apartments is great as right on nursery slopes .....but that's only plus really. So to the room, no food, no drinks, knackered, initial appearance ok, fairly modern, quite decent size, good storage, kitchen ok, sofa bed and curtains etc looked a bit worn and tired but ok. Bathroom seemed fairly modern. Then the issues, we decided to check out the balcony of our first floor room, and found to our amazement no lock or even handle on patio doors ????? Just a hole where lock was with tissue stuffed in the hole to stop draft ! The balcony itself felt that it would collapse at any min as moved when you walked on it !!! Reported to reception but all they said was, "its ok as you are on first floor, the parts are on order"........terrible, we couldn't lock the room therefore all week, in day while out skiing or at night and with young kids a huge worry ! No other room was available they stated, and this I already knew as every day a steady queue of people were at reception asking to change rooms and complaining about terrible rooms/noise etc. Then the heating problems, although room upstairs ok, main bedroom down stairs very cold, so relies on radiators, but for 4 days they didn't work at all !!! Freezing and couldn't dry our wet ski gear a nightmare ! The shower seemed to get colder and colder as week went on, and had hardly any power. Then after a few nights some lunatics moved into apartment next door, Italians, played euro pop music full volume till midnight next 3 nights and refused to open door when I was banging to get them to turn it off ! Reception just said "its a private apartment so we cannot do anything" !!!! Terrible. There were also gangs of Italian youths drunk running shouting and screaming as loud as they could, up and down the corridors all night, god knows why ? So this is definitely not a family resort or apartment residence I can 100% confirm. Do not come here with children. The ski slopes especially the nursery area are so dangerous anyway, far too busy and small, it was a shambles finding lessons and instructors amongst so many people, the blue run back to home was narrow and very overcrowded. So overall, after money was pumped into this resort and these apartments for 2006 winter Olympics, I would say nothing has been spent since and it shows, we wouldn't ever come back, plus as I said slopes poor, too overcrowded and loads very long drag lifts that kids cant manage. Cross this one off your list !!!

It is with regret after 4 years of being loyal customers visiting the self catering apartments that our family will never use this establishment again!! We book our annual family ski trip with Campo smith every year for the last four years. We followed our usually process email booking etc and payment later. Slightly concerned that we had not had our usually reply having confirmed our booking in October. We phoned to double check our usual apartment. 48 hours from departure. The lady over the phone explained that our booking had been had not been made and that an ex member of their staff had actually failed to book several people's accommodations. When we enquired what they were going to do about their error? We were laughed at and no apology given. So After 4 years of over looking the tried decor and noisy bars. We will not be returning

We stayed at Campo Smith which consists of basic accommodation. Our initial room was tiny with a double sofa bed for us and a single sofa bed for my partners 13 year old son right opposite us. The room really smelled of cigarettes and appeared grubby. My partner complained and the Crystal Ski reps quickly upgraded us to a slightly larger room with a separate bunk room for our 13 year old. It smelt much fresher and although basic had everything we needed. The skiing was great and literally right on the doorstep. The resort had free regular buses to the main part of town which is a 15 minute walk away and also to the other ski areas.

Accommodation was great and very close to the slopes. Wifi was good and the skiing perfect for the children - lots of blue and wide reds. Would go again. Excellent location and very helpful staff. Ski hire, spa and great wine bar right on the door step. Nothing negative to resort.

Apartments are functional, but our bed sofa was very uncomfortable. Unfortunately, very noisy at night because of a few bars with loud music and people shouting until late.. Overall ok but could be much better if quitter and with comfortable beds!

Skiing is good here but the hotel residences complex looks like an ugly shopping mall from 1976. Campo Smith has been built since I last came to a peaceful village with great people great eating and friendly locals. Now the bottom of the piste is ruined by the hotel complex and cheap food outlets which really looks and sounds like it caters for 18-30s. Shame beacause the area is great and well covered by snow cannons. Don't think you're in the hotel if you book the Residences. You most certainly are not. The apartments are in the hotel and fine enough but you will have to pay 18 euros each every time you use the hotel pool and charges apply to all the hotel facilities. You get just the room or apartment and won't get in that until 5-6pm on the day you arrive. Crystal let us down here too as the advert shows the hotel not the Residences with pool and all. Not like Crystal at all. Probably the worst feature and it applies to the hotel too is the bass boom from Haralds bar across the piste. It goes through the whole of the complex incessantly. I've no idea why they think this attracts people as most people clear out of the place because of the noise. Don't eat there either - poor quality and it made us all Ill. If you get it cheap enough, can put up with loud euro hip hop (not good hip hop) and want door to door skiing with interesting snow covered pistes busy then go for it. If you want to put your feet up and relax after the piste or head for a quiet drink and laugh with fellow skiers then this isn't for you. My holiday was dirt cheap and this made it okay. If Haralds was a Weatherspoons and the pool included in the Residences prices it would be fantastic!

We went with Crystal over New Year, which offered good value during New Year season. HAving read the reviews - my exepctations were low. However I would say that on the whole the postitives outweighed the negatives. We were in an appartment for 4 people (1 bedroom and sofabed). The apartment was roomy and clean, and the beds were comfortable. The apartment is situated on the slopes on Campo Smith, and could not be more convenient. The water was hot, and the heating was efficient - in fact we had to switch it off! However there were some issues - the balcony was not safe with areas of rotten timber on the balcony (our children are now in their teens, and we just avoided the balcony). The tables and chairs were ricketty, and falling apart. They had been mended, but the screws were not doing the job! The curtains would not close porperly - which was a nuisance as the "Hotel Rive" sign flashed different shades of neon all night.The soft furnishings were tired and tatty. The kitchen was clean and functional, but it was not fully stocked with crockery and glasses. There was a very spacious and clean fridge. The other issue was that we arrived at 12pm and check in was not until 4pm, (similarly checkout at 10 am and left at 2pm). THere was nowhere to leave the suitcases, except to pile them into the cramped reception area. I would recommend putting ski socks in the hand luggage if you hire boots - and hope that your room is ready when you have collected your skis/boots. Would I return - yes. It was a great location, and the room was comfortable and clean, but there were a few niggles - yes. I think with very little money and effort these appartments could have a lot more to offer, and could even exceed expectations!

Apts clean and functional, great location and perfect for younger ones at beginner. As an approx 3 star reflects very good value all round. Cooking facilities are adequate - drawback the nearest mini-market is c 1km away but otherwise no issue

went here in feb 2016 the room was dirty with brown stains on the bedding, broken entrance door(which they did fix) did not feel safe in these apartments by the first evening with all the gangs running shouting and screaming between all the rooms on the floor( it was like an 18 to 30s party place) so got onto the rep to try to get us moved to another hotel. crystal were very helpful with this and we moved to another hotel( it cost us as we had to pay to cancel campo smith and then the cost of the upgrade but only other alternative was to fly home. this place is 1 star accommodation at best

We stayed here in Feb for a ski holiday. Location was fantastic, skiing to the door. Room was lovely and big but unfortunately was not ready when we arrived and we were made to wait for it, finally got in the room at 7pm with two tired young children to find it was still dirty and we were placed above the bar. Went to reception to ask if we could move rooms and was told no there weren't any and was not her problem - asked to speak to the manager and she said she was the manager!!!!! Did have a fantastic kids club though. Other gripe was that nearest shop selling milk etc is a 30 min walk so wouldn't stay here again
