"Excellent resort with an amazing staff"

8.0

We visited in early December to avoid the holidays rush and prices. Weather was perfect with mostly sunny days and almost no rain. Our check-in process was smooth and the staff member at the reception was friendly. We requested an extra bed and some extra pillows, and he prompty submitted that request, which was fulfilled within 10 minutes of our arrival at the room. Resort & Room Resort has 3 other sister resorts in the same campus and guests can visit all of them except the buffet restaurants. They have shuttles running between these resorts and there are adequate spaces on them most of the time. Room was dated but tidy and had AC running without any issues. It was cleaned on a daily basis and was kept in a great condition by very polite and amazing cleaning staff. There is a child activity centre for teenagers, infants and toddlers that had activities throughout the day for families with kids. There is an amphitheatre and gym beside the buffet restaurant but we never visited them. The big pool is amazing and kept in a clean condition by hardworking staff. There is also a play area for kids which is supervised by lifeguards at most times. Resort has different pool activities throughout the day to keep people entertained. The small bar within the pool is nice. We took a shuttle to go to the private beach area owned by the resort and it was beautiful and clean. The market within the resort vicnity is made for tourists so beware of the inflated prices. Food & Entertainment Food was quite good. Resort has a giant buffet restaurant which can get very busy during breakfast and dinner times but was never a time when we had to wait. I specifically liked the fact that they have 24-hour food availability by having at least one restaurant open at any given time. We also went to the poolside restaurant which had similar but limited options compared to the buffet restaurant. You may want to check their schedules beforehand. We are vegetarians and the resort had limited but decent options. All restaurant area employees were nice, cheerful and accomodating. Resort has several a la carte restaurants but you have better odds at winning a lottery than finding a reserveration at one of these! Disappointments / Things to Improve 1. We booked the family package when booking online and were promised a room close to the pool and a welcome gift at check-in. We were also told that the room would have a refrigerator with kid-friendly items such as juice and chocolate milk. We were given none of those. 2. It is impossible to get a reservation at an A la carte restaurant. When I checked the app after checking in to the resort, ALL restaurants were booked for the next 7 days while some had only 1 spot available. We walked pass the italian restaurant every day in the evening and it was at no more than 70% of the capacity at any time. We managed to book a reservation at the Indian restaurant which was cancelled by someone at the last minute. 3. Resort has a no pool chair-hogging policy by placing a towel but I saw several people still doing it with no enforcement. Some of these chairs were never occupied by those people during the day. 4. Some staff members at the bar in the main lobby could improve their customer service skills. I found their behavior blunt on multiple occassions. Overall, it was a nice vacation and I would definitely consider going back.

"TERRIBLE for the price"

4.0

We are here as I write this review until January 6th. We were here before and we knew it was average at best and now rating this place as average would be grossly over rating the resort . They have cut the resort down by a 1/3 as they split it up and turned part of the resort into the Tequila resort which we used to be able to use and now can’t . We had to change rooms after our first night as it was disgusting. Mold in the bathroom , burned plugs , TV hanging crooked , holes and stains in the furniture and sheets. Having said that Alondra was exceptional trying to correct the problems. Many problems to mention with regards to cleanliness and food quality. I will say the service is decent as they are trying their best to deal with a below average resort . We have been to many places in Mexico and for what you pay go elsewhere and perhaps pay more as Hyatt / Bahia Príncipe is not doing anything to make the resort better. We were at another Hyatt resort in Huatulco four weeks ago and it was also horrible with regards to quality. We have travel to Mexico two to three times a year and the Hyatt resorts appear to no longer focus on quality or cleanliness. I can not stress enough how below average the rooms, food etc are well below average compared to other resorts. Please note for the past 15 years we got to Mexico 2-3 times a year and there are way better options .

"Bah-Bye Principe Coba"

4.0

Bah-Bye Principe Coba We chose Bahia Principe Coba hoping for a relaxing vacation, we have stayed with then over 5 times before but the experience was largely frustrating and disorganized. The resort often felt designed around waiting rather than guest comfort. Fire alarms beeped constantly in lobby and trolley areas, creating an unpleasant atmosphere. Trolley service was unsafe at times, with drivers not waiting for guests to fully exit. The Coba buffet was poorly designed, with long lines and limited variety. Items were frequently mislabeled, the omelet station was slow, and food quality was inconsistent. We paid extra for wristbands to access other areas of the resort and found Akumal significantly better, with a more spacious buffet layout, multiple bacon stations, and quality meats openly available without attendants. Dining service across the resort was slow and disorganized, often lacking cutlery, glasses, and timely coffee service. Drinks were below average, even for an all-inclusive. Rooms were very dated with stains, missing tiles, uncomfortable beds (two beds pushed together as a “king”), rough linens, and doors that frequently malfunctioned—making it difficult to access our room and unreliable to keep items cold in the fridge. Maintenance and safety were major concerns. Bathroom doors did not lock properly across multiple resorts. We witnessed several guest injuries, including falls and fainting, with poor safety features such as missing railings and no ice available for injuries. During rainy weather, instead of providing a calm lounge atmosphere, extremely loud activities and music were played indoors, making it uncomfortable to relax—though at least it temporarily drowned out the fire alarm beeping. Overall: This resort did not meet expectations for comfort, safety, or relaxation. Akumal stood out as a better option, but Coba itself fell far short of the quality expected from Bahia Principe. Will not be returning.

"Amazing family vacation"

10.0

It was a fantastic experience for our whole family! Everything was incredibly easy – from the activities to the food to the accommodations – making this the perfect destination for families looking for a stress-free getaway. The entertainment group was incredible! They truly made our vacation special, especially for the kids. My children had a blast at the Teens/Kids Club, where they were kept entertained and engaged with fun activities. Gigi was absolutely fantastic with both of my kids – she made them feel right at home and they couldn’t wait to see her every day. A big shoutout to Antonio too – he went above and beyond to ensure all activities were fun and inclusive for everyone, no matter their age or skill level. Buffet, a la cart restaurants and service was also great with enough variety. Room and entire resort is clean. Overall, Bahia Principe Grand Coba was the perfect place for our family vacation.

"Only 2 days in and rules are relentless!"

4.0

We travel often and this is the 3rd time this year we have travelled to Mexico, twice due to unfortunate hurricane in Jamaica. This resort is the worst we have ever stayed! Shuttle dropped us at our room with our luggage, 2- 70 yr olds to carry up 3 flights of stairs, after being 3 hrs late, arriving at 11:30pm. No room service to order food but you can go to the snack bar open until 7 am. Scan this QR code for the map of grounds to find it. We requested a room change (ground floor) due to the 3 flights of stairs, my husband has 2 knee replacements, can’t do it until 3 days later - Monday. Room key was not programmed properly, so we had to go back to the lobby. We called to have the shuttle come back and they said we can’t do that, have to go out and wait for one. They stop running at 12:30. Had to change rooms so a shuttle did come back and wait to move them - now going on 12:30, travelling with a 6 yr old up since 7:00 am, is getting testy! Very far walk to restaurants, lobby, theatre, so you need to take a shuttle but they are few and far between, every 15ish minutes they do a drive thru the complex. Unbeknownst to us, we are in “Peasant Ville”, not allowed to go to other resorts on the property, can’t even walk thru them to get to the beach b/c the path goes thru an “adult only” section. Even an adult wasn’t allowed b/c of the colour of his wristband. Other family members were in an adult only section but were allowed to be with us all day, which they wanted to do b/c our resort pools were bigger. Plenty of pool chairs which is a good thing b/c the other 3 resorts were spending their day at our pools. The a la carte restaurants need reservations, booking up to 10 days prior to arrival. Need to check-in first, then book reservations. Only 3 a la carte allowed. Website is not “user friendly”, very difficult to navigate. We got reservations at same time slot but not together b/c different rooms, so we went to the Reservation Desk to see if they could put us together. Reply was “no”. Could we change one of ours and hook up with other 3 - “no - only one seat available”. Yet when we were at dinner, 2 of us, a single lady at a table for 4, a couple at a table for 4 and they moved 2 tables together for a table of 5. Plenty of tables open during our hour there. Makes no sense! Bars only have one bartender and line-ups are really long. On a whole most staff do not want to be on the job, nor do they appreciate friendliness or tips. Many rules around the pool for some, but the swim-up bar pool allowed kids in it, while throwing balls, etc and splashing people at the bar.

"Not enough staff, and too many rules"

2.0

The theme of this resort is not enough staff, and too many rules. We have been to Mexico 15+ times, and this is by far the worst resort we have stayed in, and we are only on day 2! I’m writing this from our room because the shows are all too late for my 6 year old, but he’s too young for the kids club (10-13 yrs old at night) - which means we are stuck in our room with nothing for him to do. Villas - no elevators in the villas, so you have to carry suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. No one offered to take my 70 year old parents’ luggage to their room, just dropped them and their luggage at the bottom of the stairs and basically said “good luck.” Day time - the lines are so long for drinks - only one bartender ever working. If you want breakfast, you are out of luck as there is never enough food. Empty trays are left on the buffet and not topped up often. Only one person making eggs, so the line is typically 10-15 people long (35 min wait). Lunch - there is often not enough food, and you are left with mostly scraps unless you are the lucky one to be at the front when the pizza comes out of the oven. For a resort this size, there needs to be major improvement in the quantity of food - the quality is not bad. Pools - The bathrooms by the pool run out of toilet paper by noon and are never refilled. The kids pool is fun, but often 3-4 slides are closed, so options are limited. If you stay by the big pool, you’re not allowed to have kids jump in, or splash too much or you get a whistle blown at you. If your towels are soaked, too bad - only one change a day allowed. Beach - The shuttles run every 15ish min to the beach, and the lineups are so long, it’s like the hunger games to get a seat. Once you get to the beach you can only sit on the Coba chairs, and get drinks from the Coba bar. The lineup for this bar was easily 25 people, we waited over 30 minutes to get a drink (because again, only one bartender). The staff are not rude, but also not friendly. They don’t smile, and when asked for anything, they act like it’s an inconvenience, even when we tip them. Overall, it feels like this resort is not at all about convenience or guest experience. Even after expressing our concerns to our Air Canada representative, nothing was done. I’ve never written a review before, but after just two days here, I felt like others needed to be aware before booking this resort. This was also not a cheap option!! There are other family resorts in Mexico where we felt more valued as a customer, and had a better experience for less money.

"I want coffee in a mug after supper"

4.0

I can't get coffee in a mug after supper at lobby. And they wouldn't refill machines to have in plastic . This is every night. My granddaughter was invited to foam party and see Santa. Security was very aggressive said we couldn't be there. Very sad. TV keeps turning off every 5 minutes. Staff is good. Jonathan entertainment tries to make everything good even the coffee maker that bartender won't do

"Pleasant surroundings, good food, nice staff."

8.0

The pool and grounds were great. The snack bar was convenient. The room was spacious and the bathroom was well appointed..good shower head and nice size. Bed nice and large. Air con and ceiling fan worked well.

The room looked a bit worn. Lamps were askew, the floor lamp had clearly been broken and was just propped up. The curtains didn't close all the way, not hung right. Tile grout was cracked in places.
