"Careful when you book"

2.0

Absolutely the worst customer service I’ve ever seen in my life. Don’t waste your time and be certain you understand their booking policy. I paid $300 for a room, but unfortunately had to cancel due to a family emergency. I was told that I could rebook the room but when I tried, I was told that I needed to rebook it on the day I cancelled. That was not communicated, but the property manager says it was clearly explained. Really? How you’d you know a future date? If that was clearly explained, then I wouldn’t have casually let it go for a future booking. They already had my money? I’ve tried to get a resolution, but it appears the customer service side of this business has missed the point. They took the $300, rebooked the room, and didn’t honor their word. Plain and simple, customer service doesn’t exist and “ policy” is the guideline. I never got the opportunity to stay at this property and I never will. Honor and integrity speaks louder than policy.

Excellent stay. Rebecca went out her way to insure enjoyable visit The key codes/doors unlocked/no physical keys can be a problem, as mentioned in earlier reviews. For us, Rebecca made sure there was no problems, everything went smoothly

"Don’t"

Virtual check-in is ok but nobody at the site ever is not. One coffee set up in room. Dirty. Ice is a block away. Rooms on first floor have the hall light shining into room 1&2 through glass doors with sheer curtains . Extra $20/day housekeeping fee in small print

"Lovely historic room, great value"

9.0

Beautiful historical house. Room was huge, clean and comfortable. Nice TV with many cable channels, Keurig coffee maker (and k-cups and bottled water), microwave a fridge, were appreciated. Very quiet. We just had two very minor issues which management took care of quickly.

Very minor (and quickly fixed)- the Bluetooth keyless app did not work, so the gave us actual key cards on the spot for free. When we arrived, it was unusually cold for Florida (mid December.) Not management's fault. But it was chilly in our 2nd floor room. Management ran an electric space heater over quickly, which made things perfect. Again, very minor things. Compared to the value and comfort in this room, nothing at all to worry about.

"Wish we could have relaxed instead of having to work at making the amenities function."

4.0

Bed very comfortable. Decor very quaint. Very quiet but then we were the only ones in this building. Expected it to be old, quaint and homely but some items must be bought up tp todays standards re ease of use.

Room temp control was virtually useless. Shower control was also very difficult to get correct, temp and/or volumne. This is not a facility for folks over 60 -- too many hazards and dangerous areas. Understand it is an old facility but certain issues should be addressed. Checking in process was not for sissies !

"A 5 day miserable experience. No basic amenities. We had a roof, bed, and running water. That’s all! Period!"

2.0

Coombs Dear Ms Coble: Unfortunately we booked Coombs for my 5 night birthday celebration get-away. The only bright spot in the entire 5 days was Jared’s excellent customer service and his intention to make things right. Bless his heart. LaDonna was also understanding. So how was our experience??? To borrow from Elizabeth Barret Browning, “let me count the ways”. 1. Despite downloading the Direct Key app, we still couldn’t gain access to the building so back to a hotel on Water Street where Jared is stationed and where we got the old-fashioned key. As we’re bringing our things in, another couple had the same issue for admission and Jared had to come down to help them get into the building. 2. Immediately upon checking in and surveying our accommodations, we made sure to find a fire escape exit—our safety, in case of fire, looked that questionable. 3. We love to stay in old vintage boutique hotels—which this is not. It’s dubbed “a mansion” but far from the truth. Instead, it’s a big old run-down house. The ceiling in our room is convoluted and looks as if it could cave in at any moment with seams between the boards opening up. I’ll include photos. 4. The glass shower hasn’t been cleaned in a very long while. Water spots and soap scum covers the 2 glass sides making it difficult to see in or out. Photos included. 5. The 2 corners where shower meets the wall is caked with dirt. Photos included. 6. We were allotted 1 minuscule bar of soup for 2 lavatories and a shower. It’s not more than a sliver. 7. We believe in a wash cloth for the body and one for the face. We were issued only one each. 8. We ventured to the porch to get warm, rock, and read. The outside of the door is covered with webs and dead bugs. The siding either needs power washing and/or painting. Very unkempt and run down. Many of the porch balusters are rotten at the base. A gutter is hanging off one section of the roof. There is no comparison in the immaculate and well-maintained Gibson Inn and this place! One is elegant. The other, shoddy. Photos included. 9. I sent a text at 8-ish one morning asking where I’d find a hair dryer, the guest laundry, the ice machine, and thermostat to control our room’s temp. It’s cold enough in our room to hang meat! Late afternoon I heard back that one thermostat controls entire building. Jared brought a space heater. Said ice machine was in lobby by kitchen door. There is not a kitchen—-nor ice machine. Jared brought us ice. Other than the ice he delivered, we’ve gone without ice for our entire stay. There is no guest laundry. We had an ironing board—-but no iron!!!! I also contacted ‘them’ Monday and it’s Wed and still no response. 10. There’s a mirror in bathroom and one over the mantel but you’d have to be 9’ tall to be able to see your reflection. My husband is 6’ 2” and on tip toe he couldn’t see his reflection. 11. And another lacking item—-luggage racks!!! We have to keep our opened suitcases on the floor. Very inconvenient to have to squat when we need to get out an item of clothing. 12. We had one opened box of tissue and a mostly used roll of toilet tissue upon our arrival. Jared brought us replacements. 13. The back wall and floor of the frig had a dried red substance. Blood? Our food wasnt going in there so had to use our cooler—with rationed ice. Photo included. 14. On the door to bathroom, you can write your name in the dust on each panel frame. 15. If you aren’t a stair climber, this isn’t the place for you. These must be 12’ ceilings so the flight of stairs to 2nd floor has 2 landings and 20 steps—guaranteed to elevate your heart rate. Lighting in the entry as well as in the room is sub-par making the stairs risky. They’re dark brown added to the low-light, makes it very difficult to see. There’s only a railing on one side. If you were to miss a step and fall, you’d have a long trip down. I see that dark stair case as a legal and safety hazard. There needs to be a railing on the other side. 16. We’ve had Keurigs for years and also have a travel size that I wish we’d brought. The Keurig in our room will try the patience of Job. It takes a huge quantity of water so what you end up with is brown hot water — sans coffee flavor—despite bringing our own dark roast k-cups. 17. The bathroom as 2 very narrow shelves about 3” wide and other than that, there’s no place to put toiletries. So they’re lined up around the tub’s enclosure. 18. For what is charged and what we get at Coombs—-not equitable. We will never book Coombs again nor recommend it to anyone. There are none of the usual basic hotel amenities so all it provided us was a roof, running water, and a bed. Run for the hills from this place. Next time we’ll choose the Gibson.
