Location was convenient

When I first arrived the front desk person didn’t explain where my room was didn’t say anything about what time breakfast was or even where they served breakfast she didn’t even tell me which floor I was on just handed me the keys and let me figure it out I actually went to the wrong floor but I watched the same explain things to another guest and was very helpful to her this was very disappointing I’ve never been treated that way upon arriving to a hotel and the next morning I was questioned when I came down for breakfast I was treated like I didn’t belong there but I noticed others who were unlike me just came in and sat down with out being asked questions like what’s your room number or are you guests here I felt like I was being racially profiled it’s almost as if the employee was acting like I just walked in off the streets and she made me uncomfortable because she kept staring at me

Good points: Professional staff, very helpful. Close to lots of amenities. Very quiet room even though it was near the elevator. AC worked well, nice and cold which is good since it was hot. No heat though but I just opened the curtain and that did the trick. Bad points: Room was dirty and was never fully vacuumed. Ran out of shower amenities and they were never replaced. I had to ask for TP. Maintenance came in one day even though the DND sign was on to store a "shower seat" which wasn't asked for - I just came back to the room to find it. I had to haul it out to take a shower. No explanation of why it was there although I did go to the front desk with a picture. No explanation of why maintenance went in when the sign was up. Room has no safe, no microwave, no blow dryer. I recognize they, like everywhere, are short staffed. If it wasn't that I was instructed by the company to tip housekeeping, though, I would not have. And If it wasn't that I was staying there courtesy of someone else I wouldn't stay again.

I met Kaleb on my first night at the hotel, a Friday, and he couldn't have been more helpful. As a long-time Bonvoy member, and having a room on the concierge floor, I was surprised that my key didn't open the door to the Concierge Lounge. Kaleb quickly remedied that and was available for anything else that I needed to make my stay the best it could be. As were all of the associates at this fine hotel!

We’ve been coming back to this Marriott City Centre hotel in Newport News for several years now during a USTA tennis tournament, and it continues to be our go-to place to stay. I wanted to share just how wonderful this hotel is, the staff truly make all the difference. From check-in to check-out, the service is consistently excellent. Whether it’s at the front desk, during breakfast, or throughout our stay, there is always someone available to help answer questions or accommodate requests. They’re especially great about working with you if you need to adjust your check-in or check-out times, which is incredibly helpful during a busy tournament schedule. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Occasionally there can be a slight musty smell, but honestly, it doesn’t change my decision, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. A shoutout to the breakfast staff, Vivian, Neka, and Robert are absolutely top notch. They go above and beyond every single morning. They have been here for years. Even though breakfast officially starts at 6:30 a.m., I come down as early as 5:45 a.m. and there’s already fresh coffee and milk available, which is something I’ve never experienced at other hotels. They understand that many guests are on tight schedules and keep things running quickly and smoothly. And Robert’s omelets are delicious! I also love the location. It’s a great area to walk around, with water views and several restaurants within walking distance. The outdoor seating area and lobby spaces are both inviting and comfortable. I can’t say enough good things about this hotel,it’s always a fantastic experience, and we look forward to returning year after year.

Brunch was excellent. The chef made our omelette and egg order perfectly (he knows the difference between over easy and over medium). Service by Vivian was friendly and quick! Food And service were top notch in every area. I would have given five stars except for the fact that you have to wait for a table instead of just choosing a table like every other breakfast buffet in every other Marriott hotel. I don’t understand why they do this.
