Rocco Forte Astoria Hotel

Simply pampered Very nice friendly people who went out of their way to make your stay comfortable

Front desk staff, some appeared to lack customer service ability/attitude. Staff working on room service were excellent. Restaurant staff uneven in terms of taking/delivering orders correctly/in timely way.

we are very experienced luxury travelers so we found the hotel's cumbersome attempts to up sell us a more expensive suite at check in (in front of my traveling companion, and for more money than if i had booked the suite originally) embarrassing; later bait and switch trick to get us to use expensive hotel car when we asked for a taxi was something beneath a hotel of this class. But most incredible was the fact that air conditioning wasn't working in our room so we had to sleep in a sweltering 27 degrees for three nights. hotel basically ignored our complaints by suggesting perhaps we would like to move into a small room with no view (saying the problem must be the sun -- even though we told them the AC didn't work at night) until we finally took pictures of the thermostat at night and first thing in the morning, showing that the room got hotter over night, and only then did they acknowledge there was a problem (but failed to solve it; having first tried to sell us a more expensive suite with a view they originally said they had no rooms with a view to move us into and then magically at 2 am on our last night -- when we got in after a good dinner -- they offered to move us to a nicer room with the same view, but that was a little late). most of the staff were nice, but that didn't make up for not sleeping at night. we laughed out loud when the hotel gave us a paper asking us to rate them on tripadvisor -- we will but they might wish we won't..

Being our first visit to Russia we did not know what to expect. The staff at this hotel absolutely made our stay. They assisted us in everything we needed to do or find. They greeted us warmly, and made a point of coming out to farewell us. Based on the people at this hotel we would enthusiastically return for another visit. The hotel is well located and is an historic building itself. Rooms are smallish (as you would expect in a building of this vintage) but comfortable and most have unbelievable views of the historic area.

Enjoyed the location. The housekeeping and restaurant staff were good. Did not like the room as it was small and tired, but it was OK for a short stay as we were mainly out sight seeing. Double bed consisted of two singles pushed together. The bathroom was very small but the shower was powerful. This did not feel like a five star hotel.

Everything was perfect. The location, the breakfast, the staff. The room was not really a 5-star room, but very clean and quiet.

All perfect, can improve housekeeping response rate a little bit but overall very happy

It was a great stay in a very heart of St. Petersburg. The Hotel however a bit disappointed me - I expected much more from the famous old Astoria hotel of St. Petersburg.

We were there for tourism and it was perfect location, perfect service and perfect comfort.
