"Perfect 10/10 from us!!"

We stayed here for a week in June and it was an absolute 10/10 for us. It was spotless the breakfast was great, lots of variety and good quality topped with fresh squeezed orange juice! The air conditioning was not working in one of the rooms (we had 3). We went to tell front desk, they were very helpful and the repair person had it fixed within literally 5 minutes!!! The beds were lovely and firm and we all slept like rocks. The Pergola restaurant, great food, very helpful friendly staff who took our daughters life threatening allergy seriously every single time we ate there, which was at least 5 times. The pool was great, plenty of seats although some people do that annoying towel thing, leaving them all day and not using them, but that is not the hotels fault. There was a life guard, Lilianna. We wanted to give her special mention not just for being fun while keeping a sharp eye on things, but for what we saw her do. She noticed an older lady, went over, helped her to the edge of the pool and seated her on the edge next to her frame so she could still enjoy a splash in the pool, before helping her back up and to get her t-shirt back on. Just quiet, genuine compassion and care. We were also served drinks by the pool quite often by Edgar, who was such a lovely helpful person. It felt more like being served by a friend. I saw many staff great guests like personal friends, in what I assume was many people on returning visits. This tells me, people want to come back, the staff stay long enough to recognise guests and the culture promotes great service. I often speak to staff when we stay places, as if they are treated well, that speaks volumes about the place. The staff I spoke to, told me staff there are very happy and of all the hotels near by, this one people want to work at because they get treated better than a lot of them. Not sure about you, but when I know people around me feel happy and treated well, it creates a very different vibe and this place seems to be that place. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

"Good 4 star hotel"

Booked a week here last minute. Hotel is good, clean and the pool area is spacious, albeit a bit cold in May. Food was ok, but we did find it quite repetitive. We paid £400 on booking with Jet2 to upgrade the room from a double to a ‘suite’ to try and get a bit of extra room as we had a baby and a five year old with us. I wouldn’t do this again, because when I peaked into other double rooms as they were being cleaned the only difference I could see between those and our ‘suite’ was our toilet was separate to the bathroom. We asked to upgrade to a one bedroom suite and I rang the hotel before we arrived to see if this was possible as their website was showing a room available. They were quite unhelpful and said it would have to be done on check in - which was only 36 hours later as we literally booked last minute!! On arrival I asked again and despite the room still showing as available on their website they said it was no longer available. All in all the hotel was good. There’s a little shop onsite where you can buy supplies, ice creams etc, and the food in the outdoor pergola bar was really good quality. There’s also a little arcade with games machines which our little boy loved on an evening after dinner. In summary we had a great time, the sun shone and the hotel offered everything we wanted. Only downsides were perhaps reception staff are quite frosty, unhelpful and aloof (compared to all lunch and dinner and bar staff who were really friendly and helpful).

"Disappointed to see the changes in this hotel as would always recommend but not so sure now ."

Have stayed at this hotel many times but haven’t been for 2years .Hotel is in a great location ,near beach,train station ,supermarkets a short walk from the back of hotel ,cross the road and there’s a path that takes you through the allotments . Can see changes in the hotel from the last time we were there ,upgraded to a junior suite which has a pigeon problem with them nesting in the planting area and messing on the balcony which wasn’t cleaned every day also towels were very scratchy ,safe had been left closed so could’nt input our numbers to use ,kettle didn’t work or the socket underneath the tv ,when that was fixed for some reason the bedside lights were on permanently and wouldn’t switch off ,we reported this and were told the maintenance man had gone home so the only solution was to unscrew the light bulbs ,clearly rooms aren’t checked properly especially the electrics ,tea and coffee in the room isn’t replenished you have to pay for it . The restaurant most nights was ok if you like fish and don’t mind eating from cold plates not many meat dishes .Staff were friendly and helpful .

From walking into the stunning entrance and bar/lounge area to the lovely room and view with excellent AC to the charming staff, wonderful food and cocktails!! it was a fabulous stay. An English TV channel which had a signal would have been the icing on the cake.

We had 4 rooms as attending wedding locally. More basic than the “so called” 4 star implies! Staff initially unhelpful though manager stepped in during working hours when I complained, and at least compensated for iron Issues included : - you have to give a deposit of €20 for iron - cash! If no cash you get charged 3% plus £5 for cash machine! Iron and board were cheap and nasty. - no tea or coffee or water in room - they allow smoking on balconies and so can’t leave patio doors to balcony open as stinks of smoke (and weed a lot of the time) - no aircon for month of April as not cold enough apparently - though we were very hot - especially as couldn’t leave doors to balcony open - alarm kept us awake for hours one night - someone was smoking in room! Not surprise when they let smokers use balconies! - buffet breakfast and dinner was mediocre in quality and choice

I initially selected this hotel based on its advertisement of a heated swimming pool. However, upon arrival, I discovered that the “heated pool” was actually a hot tub that required an additional fee, as did access to the gym and indoor pool. Furthermore, guests were charged each time they exited and re-entered the facility, even if only stepping away briefly. I had booked a double twin room for four people, expecting adequate sleeping arrangements, but was only provided one bed per room. This created a significant inconvenience, especially for the children in our group who had to share beds. I even offered to pay for an upgrade, but was informed this was not possible—despite the hotel appearing to be largely unoccupied and multiple requests being made. Additionally, during our stay, the outdoor pool was too cold to use and the beach was not accessible. The quality of the food was disappointing, and I found the front desk staff to be unhelpful and at times discourteous. The rooms themselves were quite small, and the air conditioning was not operational during the spring, which I was told is typical as it’s only turned on during summer months. To make matters worse, there was a guest smoking cigars on our floor, which filled the hallway with smoke and caused discomfort for my children, who suffer from asthma. This ultimately led us to check out three days early and continue our trip in the city of Barcelona. Expedia did not help with my complaints!

"Disappointing Experience at a Supposed Four-Star Plus Hotel"

Our stay at this hotel fell short of expectations for a four-star establishment. While the kitchen team and two reception staff members were polite and helpful, the overall experience was marred by poor service, lacklustre amenities, and inadequate facilities. Room & Facilities (Level 4) The room itself was quite basic for a four-star hotel. While robes and slippers are not essential, their absence, along with an iron (with only a paid laundry/pressing service available), felt disappointing. There was no chair at the table under the TV, and the only USB port was inside the safe, making it impractical. Bedsheets were not changed during our five-day stay, and my partner experienced unexplained bites, though we found no visible cause. Dining Experience (level -1) Breakfast was repetitive, with battered chicken served as a staple, which seemed unusual. The juice machines malfunctioned, dispensing only water, and the restaurant staff were consistently rude and unhelpful. Their lack of knowledge about basic items such as cups and food options made the experience frustrating. During one meal, despite our table being marked as occupied, staff cleared and reset it for new diners, discarding our dining card. After explaining the situation multiple times, we received only a weak apology and were told to request a new card at reception. That said, dinner was better than breakfast, offering more variety and selection. Entertainment & Activities Entertainment was poorly advertised, and we were not informed of the limited shows available upon arrival. It wasn’t until our third day that we discovered performances in the music bar. Given the hotel’s remote location and lack of activities, this oversight significantly impacted our stay. Spa & Pool Access Upon arrival, we asked about the pool and were simply told to use the spa (level -1). Later, we learned that the outdoor pool remained closed until the temperature reached 20°C. Access to the gym, indoor pool, and spa required a 12-euro daily fee per person, with an additional refundable 10-euro deposit for towel and locker key rental. The spa staff provided minimal guidance—my partner had to ask about lockers and towels, and there was no lifeguard on duty for most of our visit. Worse still, the restroom doors in both the men’s and women’s areas had missing locks, leaving visible holes and preventing proper closure. Serious Safety Issue (Level -1) On our second day, my partner got stuck in the restroom near the hotel restaurant. The latch plate had been removed, causing the lock to stick against the wood. A cleaner and maintenance worker struggled to free him, ultimately having to force the door open with a screwdriver, breaking it in the process. When we reported this to reception, we were casually told the door had been broken since that morning. When we asked why no sign had been placed, the response was vague and dismissive. While we received multiple apologies, my partner pointed out that had he not had his phone—or if a child had been trapped—the situation could have been far more serious. Final Impression Upon checkout, there was no courtesy or acknowledgment of our stay—we simply handed back the key and left. This summed up our overall experience: a lack of attention to detail, poor service, and subpar facilities that do not justify the four-star rating. While a few staff members were pleasant, the general attitude and operational inefficiencies made our stay disappointing. Whilst, we acknowledge that we booked during low season, which affected the local area and possibly entertainment (overall vibe), we still would not recommend this hotel unless significant improvements are made to service, maintenance, and guest experience.

"Lovely Hotel, and amazing Staff."

Lovely Hotel My partner and I have been coming here for 6 years now, And love the place, What makes it for us and keeps us coming back are the amazing Staff from the Resteraunt the Bar the Spa Reception and the Entertainment Staff all beautiful hard working people, already booked for next year. Highly recommend the Onabrava. Lynn & Steve.
