AQUA Hotel Onabrava & Spa

Once again another fantastic stay at the Aqua Onabrava and Spa Hotel in Santa Susanna, Costa Brava. A special mention must go to Pascale who looked after us pre and during our stay and to Robert in the restaurant who again went over and above our expectations. Room was lovely and entertainment each evening was to a very high standard. The quality and variety of the food in the restaurant was of a very high standard. We have lost count of the number of times we have stayed at this wonderful hotel and it will certainly not be our last. William & Janet Cartwright (room 567).

Have been coming to this hotel for many years but unfortunately this will be the last. The hotel has certainly gone downhill with its service . Room service is average , the beds are never made properly and the sheets are all screwed up underneath the duvet. When towels are changed there are never a completely set of fresh towels left. Within the dining room the service is very average. Firstly food choices are limited , hope you enjoy fish , every meal we had in 7 days we had to microwave to get it hot. The restaurant staff are not very keen on clearing plates away , most nights we finished our meal with all courses plates still on our small table. They just look and walk by and take drinks orders. Most of the older staff have gone and replaced by youngsters, lot to learn. The hotel seemed largely full but staff numbers low. This was a hotel we always looked forward to visiting but not any more.

Couples holiday (27&34 y.o) for a birthday celebration. After spending a pleasant week at this hotel, here are our final thoughts: Rooms - Spacious bedroom with two double beds and modern bathroom. Partner complained that beds were hard, but I thought they were fine. Good working air con and wi-fi. We requested a private bathroom prior to arrival as some are open plan. Be aware there is no privacy on balconies. A hotel is directly opposite, and there is no divider, other than small railings, between neighboring balconies. Mini fridge included, but kettle needs to be bought from the bar (10 euro). Maids came every day but did not provide new towels daily, even when they were clearly used and piled in the bathtub. Room water, in both taps and shower, was very salty. The water couldn't seem to wash my shampoo/conditioner out of my hair, had to use hotel products. Pool - We had no problem finding a sun lounger no matter the time of day, though this may be due to the time of year. Pool is surrounded by trees which meant many areas are shaded throughout the day. Pool is very cold but a good size. Staff - Friendly! :) Though this is the only hotel that did not leave a birthday acknowledgement in the room on a guests birthday - even though they were told in advance. This isn't expected, but this is usually a kind gesture from the hotel. Entertainment - The hotel made an attempt for nightly entertainment, it wasn't always to our taste, but it was more than other hotels we've stayed in in Spain. The 'around the world' dance show was a fun watch :) Food - Good selection of food each morning and night and always tasty! We were especially impressed with the dessert selection - and loved the chocolate fountain!! We were under the impression we could change breakfast for lunch, as we were halfboard and this is usually the case, but were told that lunch can only be exchanged for dinner. Drinks, both in the restaurant and bar, are fairly priced. And there is a well priced mini-market next door that sells great pizza! Location- Best perk of this hotel is the location! Close to the beach, train station, shops, restaurants and entertainment. We hired a scooter from local shop to drive to Blanes and Lloret de Mar where we visited more beautiful beaches only 20 minutes away. Train to Barcelona is just over an hour, and the botanical gardens in Blanes is worth a visit! Overall this was a pleasant, quiet stay and we were happy with our choice of hotel! :)

Friendly, very helpful staff, fantastic buffet dinner/breakfast and super comfy suite.

Good overall, quiet hotel and nice staff. Very close to the train station. We got a full board, which included free food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, drinks including water, were not included for lunch and dinner, which we found disappointing especially that water required a fee. Breakfast however had a good selection of free coffee, tea, juices, and water.

No AC even though the room got incredibly hot, had to leave window open all night and day but it was still very warm. Maids only came once in 6 days, took dirty towels and never brought clean ones back. Pool area was very nice, staff was friendly and overall a comfortable stay.

Not sure why this is 4 star and not 3 star... Everything was fine but very average. No extras, food was adequate, not great, staff are nice but don't exactly go the extra mile. It was all fine but I'd probably try a different 4 star next time.

Okay for short offseason vacation. Too bad they don’t keep outdoors pool warm
