Great National Ballykisteen Golf Hotel

The food (dinner only) , breakfast was not impressive. The room was spacious and generally nice, but the window was slightly broken. You could feel and hear the wind coming through, which made the room a bit uncomfortable. Reception staff was very friendly.

The spa was a major disappointment. Everything looked old and poorly maintained. The changing rooms were dirty and clearly not looked after. The steam room was not working at all, and the sauna was barely warm — closer to room temperature than expected. The swimming pool was also in poor condition and looked nothing like the photos advertised. The hotel itself felt quite worn out overall, with furniture and carpets that clearly need updating. The dinner experience even though the food was delicious was a disappointing. The table was dirty, we had to signal the waiter to come up to us and clean the table and take our order. Staff also did not seem familiar with the cocktail menu. We then waited around 20 minutes for dessert to take away and to receive the bill. The waiter had to go away from us to catch the internet signal for the transaction to go through. However after returning to our room, we received a call saying we hadn’t paid the bill, which was not true. While the hotel later acknowledged their mistake, called to apologise, and kindly offered two complimentary cocktails, the situation was still frustrating and felt quite inappropriate.

The bedroom was well appointed and spacious.

The service at the bar was poor. The staff seemed overwhelmed as there was a function taking place.

Staff were so friendly. The rooms are really cosy. Restaurant/bar has a good selection. Took my 90 year old mom and the staff really made her feel at home.

The room was very spacious. Very comfortable. The restaurants were nice. The spa upstairs was lovely and the girls were very friendly and helpful. Good location for doing the walks in arthrlow.

The hotel could do with a bit of a makeover. Instead of a bath you have to climb into a modern shower would be better. The swimming pool and sauna area were poor.
