Gainsborough House Hotel

The room was a decent size. The shower was actually very good, consistent temperature and good water pressure. Very good location for West Midlands Safari Park (why we booked it, probably most other people too)

Despite recent renovations, it still feels a bit rundown, eg leather peeling on old leather benches in the dining area. They've got a restaurant (where they serve breakfast), but they don't serve evening meals. It's not exactly in town centre, so it's a drive to anywhere that sells food, which isn't what you want after a long drive. There's no lift. There is a chair lift, but that's it. Fortunately we only had to get the luggage up one flight of stairs.

For a 3 night stay, no towels were changed and the bed was never made. Hairs were around the shower

The bedroom was a good size and clean; the communal areas were clean and well maintained. Parking was straightforward and free. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The beds were very uncomfortable, as were the pillows. The air conditioning did not work (it was a very warm couple of days) which made sleep difficult. Breakfast was disappointing, not very much variety, and most things ran out before the end of service.

Love staying here. Great location, staff so helpful, comfy bed and quiet.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much to like. The stay was very short (2 days), so we didn’t get to experience much.

There was no room service during our stay. When we asked, we were told it’s only provided after 2 days, which wasn’t helpful. Even when we requested simple items like toilet tissues, they said they would bring them but never did. Basic amenities like coffee, milk, and cream were also missing. Breakfast was average and nothing special. The biggest issue was the air conditioning. When we booked, it clearly stated that air conditioning was included, but it wasn’t working. When we complained, the receptionist told us all rooms had the same issue and they couldn’t move us to another room. The room also had an old, unpleasant smell, which made the stay even more uncomfortable. Overall: A very poor experience. I would not recommend this property.
