Mercure Newbury West Grange Hotel

Booked this hotel for a 2 day dbb 6th /7th march with GREAT LITTLE BREAKS for my wife's birthday and explore the surrounding area First night was good meal etc was lovely 2nd night was a downward spiral this was due to the resturant / bar and adjoining room had been booked for a birthday venue So this meant as the resturant manager actually said rather than us feel uncomfortable sitting in that area with all the venue guests they had set up another room for us to dine in When taken there to our surprise this was in a conference room Which was still set up as a conference situation but with a table at the far end set up for our meal so basically it was sit amongst the guests in other room or sit in that room this was upsetting for my wife as her birthday was that day and there we were celebrating it in a conference room at the hotel Very disappointed indeed and we did address this with the hotel to be told that maybe we should have rung the hotel prior to ask if there was any events on at that time As we did not book this with the actual hotel but with the GREAT LITTLE BREAKS COMPANY I feel as though you shouldn't have to do this Maybe on the actual booking calender dates these should not have been available for the two nights a fault really on the hotel due to the actual restaurant and lounge area being a small area This certainly has put off going back to this hotel 2 night dbb break did not live up to expectations

We arrive on Good Friday for two nights. What a wonderful stay everything was perfect rooms was a good size beds are comfortable. Meals on both evenings was excellent breakfast was also very good. Staff was very helpful especially Shivangi she is a credit to the hotel

Food

Not a lot bad choice

The breakfast was very poor and poor quality could not eat as cold left on a warmer in the lounge obvs for hours cleared away while still trying to make toast also just made coffee turned around been cleared away

The dinner was nice but the staff were very busy and it wasn't explained to me to pay and not put it on the room bill

The bed was very uncomfortable with a change in height between matresses. The walls are very thin so rooms are noisy.
